National Monument No. 566. This record relates to the Bronze Age phase of activity superimposed on Linkardstown-type cist and tumulus (CW008-031002-), consisting of the mantling of existing sod mound with thick layers of gravel and earth (overall dims. H c. 5m, diam. c. 22m). At least eleven unprotected burials in oval pits (two with traces of organic lining), five cremations and six inhumations at least three of which were crouched. Burial 1 was associated with a bowl food vessel, burial 5 was associated with a plano-convex flint knife and burial 6 was associated with small flint scraper. An aerial photograph taken in 1989 shows a previously-unrecorded fosse-like feature (CW008-031003-) surrounding the mound (pers. comm. G. Barrett; SMR file). It is possible that this fosse may date to this or the earlier Neolithic phase of activity at this site. National Monument No. 566. This record relates to the Neolithic phase of activity at this site which comprised the erection of a large sod mound covering a polygonal cist constructed on ground surface in a cairn (diam. c. 20m). The cist contained an inhumation accompanied by necked vessel, a small perforated toggle-like object and a bone pin. The mound was the subject of a further phase of activity during the earlier Bronze Age (CW008-031001-). 566. This record relates to a cropmark visible on an aerial photograph taken in 1989 (GB89.AH.34; pers. comm. G. Barrett; SMR file) which shows a circular fosse surrounding the mound containing the Neolithic Linkardstown burial and subsequent Bronze Age burials (see CW008-031001- and CW008-031002-). This may relate to either phase of activity at this monument or could be a later addition. Compiled by: Paul Walsh The attached image is copyright and uploaded courtesy of Dr. Gillian Barrett. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
