The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Large, disturbed rectangular area (60m N-S, 30m E-W) enclosed by a massive but defaced bank. Traces of fosse visible outside bank at S. Traces of entrance visible at midpoint of bank at W. - CW004-065: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCW004-065----. In tillage. A D-shaped enclosure (dims. c. 27m N-S; c. 33m E-W) identified as a cropmark by Faith Bailey and Simon Dowling on satellite imagery (Google Earth Pro, imagery date 14 July 2018). The straight side runs E-W to S (L 24m). There is a gap in the E quadrant (Wth c. 6m) which is probably the entrance. There are cropmarks of two field boundaries running N-S on either side of the enclosure, that c. 25m to the W is indicated on the 1st and 2nd eds of the OS 6-inch map but that c. 7m to the E appears to have been levelled before the 1st ed. map. In tillage. An oval enclosure (dims. c. 45m NNW-SSE; c. 60m ENE-WSW) identified as a cropmark by Faith Bailey and Simon Dowling on satellite imagery (Google Earth Pro, imagery date 14 July 2018). The enclosure is defined by a fosse and there is a possible entrance (Wth c. 2.7m) in the NE quadrant. This enclosure appears to overlie the NE portion of another enclosure (CW004-067----), visible as a fainter cropmark. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
