Stone circle (int, diam. c. 16m). The W half survives and is represented by seven set stones rising at intervals from a low grassy bank (Wth 3.5m; H 0.5m). Large stone circle (int. dims. 40m E-W x 35m N-S) comprising twelve stones, five now upright measuring between 0.65m and 1.3m high, and the others prostrate. Within the circle is a ruined chambered cairn which housed a possible passage tomb (11) (Ó Nualláin 1989, 127). One of a complex of burial and ritual sites which occupy an area 150m by 130m on a patch of uneven elevated pasture overlooked from the NW by Slieve Glah (CV026-004001-, CV026-004003-, CV026-004006-, CV026-004002-, CV026-004005-). It consists of a large stone circle within which there is a ruined chambered cairn. The stone circle, 40m E-W by 35m N-S, is represented by twelve stones, five now upright measuring 0.65m to 1.3m high, and the others prostrate. The largely grass-grown cairn is round in outline, 22m in diameter and 1m high. Surviving kerbstones indicate an original diameter of some 15m. A number of set stones near the E side of the cairn represent some form of chamber structure. One of a number of prostrate stones here is decorated with passage tomb art. In 1972 Raftery investigated the monument on behalf on the National Museum of Ireland. An irregular area c.10m sq. had been opened to a depth of 0.8m. The mound was shown to be composed of dark earth and small stones. Three ‘cavities’, presumably cists, were recorded in proximity to the centre of the mound. Two of these, each containing a ceramic vessel and thought to have been encased in clay, disintegrated upon discovery. A number of set stones near the E side of the cairn represent some form of chamber structure. One of a number of prostrate stones here is decorated with passage tomb art. In the centre of this structure was a complete, bipartite bowl, apparent (ext. D 15.1cm; max. ext. D body 15cm; D base 7.1cm; H 11.3cm; av. T of wall 1.1cm.) (NMI 1973:188). There was no evidence for a burial. The pottery vessel has been tentatively dated to 1980 to 1930/20 BC. The ‘cavities’ or cists are thought to been secondary insertions into the pre-existing cairn. This tomb, extant in 1965 when the published plan was made (de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1972) has since been destroyed. It stood alongside a fence on the side of a ridge 200m W of a portal tomb (CV026-006----). A ruined gallery entered from the NNE stood here. A tall stone and low stone E of it, possibly a sill, seemed to mark the gallery entrance. A possible courtstone stood in front of the tall stone. About 1.2m S of the entrance, three stones formed the inner end of the W side of the gallery and two remained on the opposite side. A gable-shaped stone closed the gallery. A set stone stood 2m S of the gallery. Sited 200m E of the site of destroyed court tomb (CV026-005----). A small chamber, 1.6m long and 1m wide, open to the SE, stands towards the S end of a low mound. The more southerly portal-stone survives. Single stones form each side of the chamber which is closed by a backstone set between their ends. A prostrate slab just S of the chamber may be a displaced roofstone. There are two stones at right angles to each other among a group of stones towards the N end of the mound. These seem to be set and could perhaps indicate a subsidiary structure. (de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1972, 128-9, No. 28.) A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
