Situated just E of the summit of a high drumlin hill. Raised oval area (int. dims. 47.3m N-S; 39.5m E-W) defined by a scarp faced with a wall of drystone masonry. From N-E and from S-SW there is a modern trench at the external foot of the scarp. The interior is used as a graveyard (CV021-006004-). Original entrance, now marked by a modern gate and pillars, was at ESE. The site, from the surface remains, would appear to be a rath later utilised as a burial ground. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. A church formerly stood within an oval-shaped rath (CV021-006001) just E of the summit of a high drumlin hill. No Visible remains of church at ground level. However, a stone head (CV021-006004-) probably originally from the site is now built into the wall of the modern Catholic church c. 25m E of the graveyard. Also, two stoups of late medieval date are housed there. Graveyard is a raised area defined by a scarp faced with drystone walling, outside of which there is a modern trench running from N-NE-E and from S-SW. Oldest headstone inscription dates to 1740. Original entrance, now marked by a modern gate and pillars, was at ESE. (Davies 1948,80). Built into the wall above the N doorway of the modern Catholic church at Castleterra. Apparently a male head with bulging eyes, squat nose and plain unsmiling mouth. Arm comes from behind the head on the left-hand side. Four fingers are used to open the mouth. The thumb is turned upwards. The head may have come from the early church site c. 25m to W (CV021-006002-). Davies (1948, 80) described it as a 'grotesque of the 15th or 16th century'. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
