Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 48m) enclosed by a low earthen bank and a deep, partly waterlogged fosse. An earlier report (OPW 1970) noted a slight counterscarp bank at the outer lip of the fosse from ESE-S. Outer face of bank has been modified and fosse is poorly preserved from S-W-NNE. Large semicircular graveyard (int. dims. 70m NE-SW) enclosed by an earthen bank and stone wall. This is the site of an early foundation which O'Connell (1965, 455) identified with the church of SS Patrick, Carthach and Brigid, noted in historical documents in 1422 and 1425. There are no visible remains of this early church. In the NW quadrant of the graveyard are the remains of a ruined 16th-century rectangular church (dims. 18m E-W; 10m N-S) containing a doorway in the S wall and the remains of two damaged windows. The N wall is featureless and only the foundations of the W wall survive. Davies recorded the remains of a window in the E wall describing it as 'a pointed cusped lintel arch, 8 ins wide, unglazed and with slightly concave chamfer on outer edge' which most likely surmounted a lancet and was reused from the earlier church. Within the graveyard is a small crude cross of unknown date and a graveslab with an inscription dating to 1688.
