Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 43m) enclosed by a low partly destroyed drystone wall. Original entrance not recognisable. Some 10m in from the cashel wall the internal area is level but rises to a height of c. 1.5m above that of the wall at the centre of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Located on a gentle SE-facing slope. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 45m) is depicted on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a 'Fort' but there is a circular quarry (diam. c. 55m) at the roadside immediately to its S. The extent of the quarry is not depicted on the 1908 edition but the only feature present in 1970 (SMR file) was a double-fronted brick and stone-built lime-kiln. Traces of the enclosure could still be present distinct from the now backfilled and grass-covered quarry. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 28 September 2022 - CV037-049: Megalithic tomb - court tomb, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCV037-049----. The monument stands immediately N of a rath (CV037-050----) on a broad ridge in rolling grassland. Largely destroyed, it consists of a S-facing court, roughly semicircular in outline, formed by seven substantial stones, three to the W and four to the E, the tallest 1.45m high. Behind the inner stone at W, which also served as an entrance jamb, a stone 0.8m high is all that now remains of the gallery. A considerable number of prostrate stones of varying size lie in and around what was the gallery area. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
