Foundations of a rectangular drystone-built church (int. dims. 13m E-W; 6.5m N-S) situated within a subrectangular graveyard (int. dims. c. 53m NW-SE; c. 37m NE-SW) enclosed by a stone wall. Davies (1948, 115) speculated that a separate chamber (L 3m) at the W end of the church foundations may have been 'part of a vault supporting a gallery'. He also noted some blocks of sandstone built into the gateposts which he suggested were possibly the jambs of 'primitive widely splaying windows, with small chamfer on outer edge'. Examination of the fields around the existing graveyard revealed that the original enclosure was circular (diam. c. 60m) and considerably larger than the area now defined by the graveyard. From SE-S-SW the original perimeter survives as a low earthen bank with a shallow but clearly defined external depression, presumably the remains of a fosse. From W-NW and at E the perimeter is identifiable only as a scarp. Two depressions which probably represent a collapsed souterrain (CV039-071002-) occur c. 16m S of the graveyard wall. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Two depressions which probably represent a collapsed souterrain. The first is rectangular (dims 4m N-S; 2.5m E-W), the second sub-rectangular (dims. 4.5m NW-SE; 1.5m NE-SW). Situated c. 17m from the wall enclosing Raffony graveyard (CV039-071001-). Both depressions partially cut the bank which formed part of the original perimeter of the earlier ecclesiastical foundation. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Situated c. 55m ENE of the foundations of Raffony church and outside of the original perimeter of the ecclesiastical establishment (CV039-071001-). The well is semicircular and is enclosed by a drystone wall and roofed by two flat slabs. Entrance is at S where there is a semicircular stone-built area which appears to be some sort of forecourt. Three apparently modern cross-inscribed stones lie on the roof. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). Situated on a ridge 150m W of Raffony Lough. A gallery, aligned WSW-ENE, is divided by a septal-stone into a portico, 1.5m long, and main chamber at least 4.3m long. The portico is represented by two stones of its N side and the main chamber by two stones to the N and four to the S. Within the chamber a stone 0.7m E of the septal-stone may be displaced. An irregular mound, 13m N-S by 12m E-W, encloses the structure.
