In improved pasture on the plateau of a hillock with excellent views in all directions across a lower, gently undulating landscape. According to Westropp (1908-09, 385) this monument had a ‘low earthen ring…[with]…no fosse’. Depicted as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 38m) and named 'Knockmoyle Fort' on the OS historic mapping. Very faint traces of a levelled bank (Wth c. 8-10m; H 0.1m) are evident intermittently SW-N-SE. The interior slopes down gently to S whereby it is just off the crown of the plateau. In improved pasture, on a gentle N-facing slope overlooking the valley of a stream at Wyndham’s Bridge. According to Curry in 1839 (OSL, vol. 2, 281), ‘There is a small burial place for children and strangers in the townland of Ballyblood, called Liskenny Burying Ground from a fort called Liskenny, within which it is said to have formerly stood, but which is now nearly destroyed by the road from Tulla to Kilkishen passing through it’. Depicted on the 1921 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a roughly triangular area (c. 40m N-S; max. c. 20m E-W) and named ‘Liskenny Burial Ground’, adjacent to a road. A very rough and densely overgrown area (as per 1921 OS map) with occasional cattle paths opening up small areas intermittently. Completely overgrown with impenetrable briars across the S half with some small, navigable areas across the N half where loose field clearance stones are scattered. There may be a possible portion of bank (Wth c. 2.6m; H 0.25m) at S end of the W side which is largely obscured by overgrowth. The former enclosing elements are degraded along the remainder of the W and all of the N side, where they are defined by mature thorn trees. No obvious graves or gravemarkers were noted in the exposed areas. The E half of this monument has potentially been truncated by the tertiary road. On a NE-SW ridge, in improved lush pasture, overlooking a low-lying landscape NE-NW including Liskenny Lough to E. Depicted on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (33m N-S; 32m E-W) defined by a single enclosing element and named ‘Liskenny Fort’. The monument survives as an arc (C 28m) of a levelled scarp (Wth 1.2m; H 0.45m) approximately NW-NNE. The remains of the scarp are covered in briars and intermittent thorn trees. There is no other trace of a levelled bank or scarp NNE-NW. A field wall (long-axis NE-SW) is c. 13m to SE at its closest point. According to local information, this is a relatively recently constructed boundary. Liskenny Burial Ground is located c. 225m to WNW. On a low rise with land falling to W and NW, in a roughly rectangular, ungrazed area of pasture where several field boundaries converge. Depicted on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map as an oval area (c. 42m NW-SE; c. 38m NE-SW) and named ‘Lougher Fort’. It is incorrectly named ‘site of’ on the OS 25-inch map and 1921 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This monument is traceable as a similar-sized oval area, although it is not possible to measure due to impenetrable overgrowth, primarily across the NE half. It is defined by the remains of an earthen bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.8m; Wth at top 1m; overall Wth 3.85m) where seen SE-SW and is defined by a scarp (Wth 2m; H 0.9m), where visible SW-W. The enclosing elements are obscured by dense vegetation W-SE. A narrow gap (Wth 1.8m) is evident at SSW. The interior is largely obscured by dense vegetation, except a small portion in the SW sector which extends as a narrow, clear path into the centre. There is no obvious presence of a fosse. The remains of an old field boundary (long axis NW-SE) flank the monument, c. 3.25m to SW and a similar field boundary (long axis c. NE-SW) is seen to the immediate NW. On an elevated area of a low rise, in a small rectangular field of improved pasture. Depicted and named ‘Scoobagh Fort’ on all OS historic mapping. A roughly circular area (28m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by a broad bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.15m; Wth at top 1.75m; overall Wth 9.75m) W-NE. The bank is reduced to a broad scarp (Wth 4.3m; H 0.55m) ENE-W. A large clump of briars obscure the enclosing elements at NE and encroach into the interior. There is a possible entrance (Wth c. 6m) at ENE-E. The interior slopes down very gently to ENE and is featureless. There are potentially faint traces of an outer fosse W-NNW. A field boundary (long-axis E-W) is c. 4m to N, a second field boundary (long-axis N-S) is c. 5m to E, a third field boundary (long-axis N-S) is c. 9m to W and a fourth field boundary (long-axis E-W) squares off this field further to S. A circular area (30m N-S; 29m E-W) defined by the remains of a bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 1m; Wth at top 2m; overall Wth 6.5m) E-S-NE. The bank has been reduced to a scarp (Wth 3.75m; H 0.65m) NE-E, where there is a possible entrance. The enclosing elements are eroded and denuded externally by cattle. Detached three-bay single-storey house with dormer attic, built 1879, with gabled projecting central entrance bay. Gable-fronted single-bay single-storey extension with dormer attic added to right hand side, c. 1990. Pitched slate roof with timber finials, red brick chimneystacks, timber bargeboard to gable and cast-iron rainwater goods. Pitched artificial slate to extension. Rendered walls. Replacement uPVC windows. Round-headed door opening with timber panelled door having glazed panels and plain fanlight. Wrought-iron gate and piers set in rubble stone walls.
