In wet pasture with higher ground to the N and a sea cliff c. 100m to the NW. Hachured on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This well-preserved circular bivallate rath (int. diams. 23.5m E-W; 22.4m N-S; ext. diams. 42.3 N-S; 41.3m E-W) is defined by an inner and outer bank with an intervening fosse. The round-topped, steep-sided inner bank (Wth 2.8-4.6m; int. H 0.2-0.35m; ext. H 1-1.15m) has several slabs lying against its inner face at SE, suggesting a stone revetment. There is an entrance gap (Wth 4.1m) at E. The fosse (max. Wth 4.5m; Wth at base 1m) is flat-bottomed and steep-sided (av. D 1m below top of inner bank; D 0.45m below top of outer bank). The lower, outer bank (av. Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.45m over base of fosse; max. ext. H 0.35m) is reduced to a scarp at E. A field system (CL104-009002-) c. 12m to the E runs around the N side of the rath, and an enclosure (CL014-009----) lies c. 76m to the NE. Near the local high point of a S-facing slope in marshy pasture with a sea cliff c. 110m to the NW. Hachured and named ‘Couladeerhy’ on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map. This subrectangular enclosure (int. dims. L 41m E-W; Wth 21.5m N-S) is defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1-1.75m; av. H 0.2m) which is almost reduced to a scarp on the W side. Outside the enclosure and abutting its enclosing bank from E-S-SW is a field system (CL014-009002-). There is a rath (CL014-008----) c. 76m to the SW. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 3-10-2025 - CL014-009002: Field system, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCL014-009002-. Near the top of a S-facing slope in wet pasture, with a sea cliff c. 100m to the NW. Clearly visible in satellite imagery (Digital Globe 2011-2013), and overlain by later field boundary walls. This field system (c. 190m E-W; 110m E-W) comprises a series of low grass-covered earthen banks, orientated E-W and N-S and abutting the E and S sides of an enclosure (CL014-009----) with which the field system is possibly associated. A nearby rath (CL014-008---) stands c. 12m to the SW of the field system. On a gentle E-facing slope in marshy pasture, c. 35m to the E of The Cliffs of Moher and overlooked by higher ground to the N and NE. Discovered by Markus Casey in 1998. A nearly square-shaped enclosure (L 19.5m NW-SE; Wth 16.5m NE-SW) is defined by a low, round-topped earthen bank (av. Wth 1.9m; H 0.25m) which is least well-preserved on the NE and SE sides. Outside the bank on the SW side is a shallow fosse (Wth 1m; max. D 0.2m). The interior slopes gently and evenly to the SE. A possible hut site (CL014-033001-) lies just outside the NE corner. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 7-10-2025 - CL014-033001: Hut site, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCL014-033001-. On a gentle E-facing slope in marshy pasture along The Cliffs of Moher and just outside the NE corner of a rectangular enclosure (CL014-033----). Discovered by Markus Casey in 1998. A penannular area (diam. 6m) is defined by a low earthen bank (est. H 0.2-0.3m; est. Wth c. 2m) except between S and W where it is ‘open’ where it faces the neighbouring larger enclosure. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
