Situated on the E side of N-S ridge overlooking the flat floodplain of the River Fergus. Described in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage as follows: ‘Detached three-bay two-storey house, dated 1665, and renovated c. 1740. Hipped slate roof with red brick chimneystacks. Roughcast rendered walls with string course between ground and first floors and moulded eaves course. Timber sliding sash windows. Carved limestone door surround comprising shouldered surround with entablature above, approached by flight of limestone steps. Timber panelled double leaf doors. Retaining interior features. Attached single-bay single-storey outbuilding to right. Date plaque from house moved to outbuilding. Rendered gate piers to site with wrought-iron railings.’ This is reputed to be the oldest occupied building in the county. Situated on the gentle S-facing slope of a hill. Topsoil-stripping on the Bord Gáis Éireann Pipeline to the West revealed portion of the remains of a structure, the rest of which remained unexcavated. The remains consisted of a brick floor (3.6m N-S; 2.7m E-W) abutting a loose stone wall foundation. Numerous finds were recovered including post-medieval ceramic. This field system and enclosure are likely to have formed part of the same field system (CL041-192----) that lies to the SE of the housing development. The NW portion of the bank has been cut through by the rear wall of one of the houses. A house site (CL041-191----) lies in the NE sector. A number of adjacent field walls form a field system (CL041-192----). This and the field system (CL041-189----) NW of the modern houses are likely to originally have been connected.
