On a very gentle SSE-facing slope, in improved pasture, overlooking a gently undulating landscape. Depicted on the 25-inch OS map as a roughly circular area (c. 52m NW-SE; 53m NE-SW) truncated by a field boundary (long-axis NNW-SSE) off-centre to WSW. The monument is not visible at ground level on the WSW side of the field boundary. The remains of a semicircular area (48m NNW-SSE; 21m ENE-WSW) are preserved on the ENE side of the field boundary where there is a well-formed bank of earth and stone (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.1m; Wth at top 1.2m; Wth at base 7.9m) N-E-SSE. There is a possible entrance (Wth 2.25m) in the bank at NE. The interior is slightly raised (H 0.8m) above the external ground level. The interior and the enclosing elements are covered in heavy grasses and occasional clumps of briars with limestone rock outcrop close to the surface. There is no obvious trace of an outer fosse. On a very gentle SSE-facing slope, in pasture, with rock outcrop close to the surface. A subcircular area (22m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by a low earthen bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.2m; Wth at top 3.2m; Wth at base 7.45m) S-N-E which has been reduced to a scarp E-S. There is no evidence of an outer fosse. The interior slopes down to SSE with the prevalent slope and is dish shaped, except where defined by scarp. A single mature thorn tree is located on the bank at N and several on the bank S-SW. On the level plateau of a limestone ridge, in lush pasture. Depicted on the OS 25-inch map and 1921 edition of the OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure which is truncated across the WSW sector by a linear field boundary (long-axis NW-SE). An oval area (28m E-W; 24m N-S) defined by a bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.5m; Wth at top 3.1m; overall Wth 10.15m) SE-S and W-NE, which is reduced to a scarp SW-W and levelled NE-ESE. The bank is best preserved SE-S. There is a dense clump of briars which obscures the enclosing elements at ESE. The interior is generally level. A well-defined curvilinear field bank (C c. 40m) extends from the monument at WNW and encloses its northern side and the children’s burial ground (CL035-041----) which is c. 25m to NE at its closest point. On the level plateau of a limestone ridge, in lush pasture. Indicated in the angle of two field boundaries on the 25-inch OS map and the 1921 6-inch OS map and named Killoghan Children’s Burial Ground. A subtriangular area (26m WNW-ESE; 18m NNE-SSW) defined by a bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.25m; Wth at top 2.3m; overall Wth 7.3m) SE-S, open S-WSW and defined by a linear bank which appears to be incorporated into an earth and stone field boundary (H 0.5-0.75m) to NW and NE. The interior is partially grass covered and is dominated by scrub consisting of whitethorn and briars. There are low, uninscribed gravemarkers (H 0.2-0.4m; L0.3-0.6m) within the scrub area along with some loose stone, which may derive from field clearance. On a very gentle E-facing slope in improved, reseeded pasture with rock outcrop close to the surface. Depicted on the 1841 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (45m NW-SE; 43m NE-SW) truncated by a field boundary (long-axis NW-SE) across the NE sector and by a field boundary (long-axis NE-SW) at N. Not depicted on the OS 25-inch map or the 1921 OS 6-inch map, however the area of the monument is enclosed by a curvilinear field boundary SW-N. The monument is not visible at ground level. There is a large surface depression in the area of the monument, off-centre to E. A curvilinear field boundary which is depicted as enclosing the monument SW-N on later OS mapping and modern aerial photography (Bing 2012), has been removed. On an E-facing slope, in pasture. Depicted only on the 1841 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular area (diam. c. 17.5m). A circular area (diam. 14m) which is defined by a bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.5m; Wth at top 1.4m; overall Wth 4.3m). The bank appears to be predominantly of stone, although it is grassed over. An intermittent kerb is visible on the bank exterior W-NW, defined by at least six upright stones (H 0.3-0.6m; Wth 0.2m). There is a possible entrance at N where the bank is low. There is no trace of an outer fosse. The interior is level and grass covered with some rock outcrop across the E sector. Ash trees are growing on the bank exterior NW-NE and there are some dense clumps of vegetation to the W and NE of the monument. A field boundary (long-axis N-S), which is not depicted on OS mapping, abuts to W. On a very gentle E-facing slope, in pasture overlooking the Boolree river. Depicted as a large enclosure named Caherloghan on all OS historic mapping. A roughly circular area (c. 40m N-S; c. 38m E-W) defined by the grass-covered remains of a stone wall (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.6m; Wth at top 3.4m; overall Wth 10.7m). There is a possible entrance (Wth 6m) at SW, where the wall is lower and there is a gradual slope leading up into the interior. The 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map depicts a field boundary (long-axis NE-SW) truncating the SE arc of the monument, however the 25-inch OS map and the 1921 edition of the OS 6-inch map depicts the field boundary abutting to SE. The boundary may have been incorporated into the enclosing elements, possibly explaining the increased wall dimensions (Wth at top 5m) at this location. There are traces of a possible fosse (Wth at base 7m; D 0.2m) SW-W but this is not conclusive as the fosse area is very broad and shallow, with rock outcrop visible to the S. The interior is mainly grass covered with occasional large clumps of vegetation and several trees. There are also some flags of limestone rock outcrop evident. A drystone wall (L 32m; H 0.4-0.45m; overall Wth 4.25m) (long-axis NNW-SSE) extends across the interior, off-centre to E and there is a gap (L 2m) at its SSE end. There is a hut site (CL035-044002-) and a house site (CL035-044003-) abutting this wall to E, at the N end. A second hut site (CL035-044001-) is within the SW sector. In the SW sector of a cashel (CL035-044----). A subcircular area (c. 10m N-S; c. 8m E-W) defined by a grass-covered drystone wall (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.2m; Wth at top 3.3m; overall Wth 4.65m). The drystone wall is incorporated into the enclosing elements of the cashel from SE to NW. From NW to NE and from E to SE it has spread out due to collapse. There is a possible entrance (Wth 1.1m) at E. The interior is generally level and grass covered. A hut site (CL035-044002-) and a house site (CL035-044003-) are located in the N sector. Abutting a linear wall (long-axis NNW-SSE) to E, in the N sector of a cashel (CL035-044----), and immediately N of a house site (CL035-044003-). A subcircular area (c. 6m NW-SE; c. 5m NE-SW) defined by a moss-covered drystone wall (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.4m; Wth at top 1m; overall Wth 3.6m) comprising small stones (L 0.1-0.2m). The wall is less defined SE-S, where collapse may suggest a possible entrance. The hut site is cut into the interior grass-covered wall of the cashel (CL035-044----) at NNE. Abutting a linear wall (long-axis NNW-SSE) to E, in the N sector of a cashel (CL035-044----), immediately S of a hut site (CL035-044002-). A rectangular area (c. 12m ENE-WSW; 10m NNW-SSE) defined by a moss-covered drystone wall (L 10m; H 0.4m; Wth 2m) to N, by the internal arc of the cashel (int. H 1.2m) at E, by a wall at S (L 12m; H 0.35m; Wth 3.2m) and the internal dividing wall (Wth 4m; H 0.4m) of the cashel at W. The wall at N comprises very large moss-covered boulders and appears randomly arranged. The wall at S has a breach (Wth 2m) off-centre to E. The interior is level and grass-covered. In generally level, rough pasture, with rock outcrop close to the surface and a low drystone field boundary adjacent to E. Described by Westropp (1902-04, No. 10d, 100) as a ‘slab….on several smaller stones….may be artificially placed….cannot be accepted as a megalithic tomb.’ Named as ‘Cromlechs’ on the 1921 edition OS 6-inch map. On a gentle S-facing slope, overlooking the valley of the Tomeen River, in pasture. Described by De Valera and Ó Nualláin (1961, no. 25, 96) as a ‘slab 2m maximum dimension resting on smaller slabs. Perhaps natural.’ Named as ‘Cromlechs’ on the 1921 edition OS 6-inch map. Not visible at ground level. The site of three other megalithic structures (CL035-045001-, CL035-045005- and CL035-045003-) are close to W, WSW and SW, respectively and the site of a cairn (CL035-045004-) is to SW. In generally level, rough pasture, with rock outcrop close to the surface and a low drystone field boundary close to S and E. Described by Westropp (1902-04, No. 10a, 100) as a ‘slab resting on smaller slabs. Perhaps natural’. De Valera and Ó Nualláin (1961, no. 24, 96) describe the structure as a, ‘Slab 2.2m maximum dimension resting on several smaller stones and a second slab 2.6m maximum dimension [is] 3m south of it. Though the first-mentioned slab may be artificially placed, similar slabs, more or less displaced from the natural strata, are frequent in the area and thus the site cannot be accepted as a megalithic tomb’. Depicted and named as ‘Cromlech’ on the 1921 edition OS 6-inch map. Not visible at ground level. A number of large stones are located within a small haggard adjacent to E and have been deposited here haphazardly along with other field clearance stones of different shapes and sizes. The site of three other megalithic structures (CL035-045001-, CL035-045002- and CL035-045005-) are close to N, NE and W, respectively and the site of a cairn (CL035-045004-) is to W. In generally level, rough pasture, with rock outcrop close to the surface with a low drystone field boundary adjacent to E. Described by Westropp (1902-04, No 10c, 100), ‘In the north wall of the field is set a block 4 feet by 2 feet 8 inches by 12 inches, and is said to have been part of a ‘Lobba’ of which the other portions were used for the wall.' A number of small and medium sized stones form this field boundary and a larger, generally flat stone is located c. 5m to S, lying up against the west side of the field boundary. Not visible at ground level. The site of three other megalithic structures (CL035-045001-, CL035-045002- and CL035-045003-) and the site of a cairn (CL035-045004-) are close to E.
