Near the top of a gentle SE-facing slope in pasture and within a large multiperiod field system (CL008-109001-). Indicated and labelled 'Dermot & Grania's Bed' on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as 'Megalithic structure site' in the RMP (1996). The OS Name Book (1840) referred to the monument as a 'stone altar' (de Valera and Ó Nualláin 1961, 91). According to Borlase (1897, vol. 1, 80) and Westropp (1905, 355), this wedge tomb collapsed in the late 19th century. Both antiquarians described the remains as oriented E-W and embedded or partly embedded in a cairn (already removed). The N and S sidestones (L 3.05m) lay flat, side by side, and each was broken in the centre (Borlase 1897, vol. 1, 80). The original standing height of the tomb chamber was estimated as 1.22m (ibid.). The roof-slab (L 3.05m; Wth 2.49m at W, narrowing to 1.83m at E; T 0.18-0.23m) overlay the N sidestone (Westropp 1905, 355). Under these large prone slabs were found two smaller slabs which were thought to be endstones; because the W endstone (L 1.52m) was longer than that at the E (L 1.22m), Westropp (ibid.) concluded that 'there was the usual eastward taper' (in height and/or width). De Valera and Ó Nualláin (1961, 91) found no trace of this monument in 1952. During a field inspection in 1998, a trapezoidal area (9m NW-SE; 7m NE-SW at NW side; 5m NE-SW at SE side) that may mark its site was identified; its SW side was defined by a field wall and its other sides consisted of collapsed and grass-covered banks (Wth 1.25m; H 0.2m). The interior was piled with heavily overgrown field-clearance rubble. See linked document with details from Ruaidhrí de Valera and Seán Ó Nualláin, Survey of the Megalithic Tombs of Ireland. In rough pasture on the top of a natural scarp sloping to the N, in an area of uneven ground and karstic limestone outcrops, within a large multiperiod field system (CL008-109001-). Listed as 'Potential site - aerial photo' in the RMP (1996). A possible enclosure was noted on Air Corps aerial photography (ACAP V247/62) taken in June 1957. On inspection in August 1998, no visible surface trace of it could be detected. However, it is still evident on more recent aerial imagery (OSi MapGenie 1995, Digital Globe 2011-2013 and Aerial Premium 2013-2018) where it appears as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 31m) defined by a grassed-over wall, suggesting it may be the remains of a cashel. Another grass-covered field wall extends off the it at E and curves southwards. On top of a natural roughly E-W running terrace, sloping steeply from N-SE, in an area of rough pasture and karstic limestone outcrops within a large multiperiod field system (CL008-109001-). Hachured on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map and named 'Cahermacrusheen' on the latter ed. Labelled 'Cathair Mhic Croisín' on Robinson's (1977) map. This subcircular cashel (40m E-W; 35.5m N-S) is defined by a scarped platform (H 0.5-1m). At N a line of stones (H 0.3m), extending along the base of the scarp, resembles the lowermost course of a limestone revetment; however, it is unclear whether this is man-made or natural. Two short stretches of a low wide grassed-over collapsed stone and earth bank (Wth 0.8m; H 0.2m) visible inside the edge of the scarp at N and E may be the remnants of an enclosing wall. In the thistle- and nettle-covered gently S-sloping interior, a series of very low barely visible earth/stone banks may be the remains of internal features or divisions. A modern water trough and shed were built against the scarp at SE. On level ground on a gentle NW-slope in an area of rough pasture and outcropping limestone. Hachured on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the RMP (1996). This circular cashel (int. diam. 19m NW-SE; ext. diam. 25.7m NW-SE) is defined by a stone spread (Wth 3.3-3.5m; int. H 0.2-0.4m; ext. H 0.2-0.4m). It is heavily overgrown with blackthorn and is surrounded by a later drystone wall (H 0.4-1m) or the remnants of it. There is a house site (CL008-027002-) in the centre of the interior. Compiled by: Olive Alcock and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 12 September 2022 - CL008-027002: House - indeterminate date, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCL008-027002-. Within the centre of the interior of a cashel (CL008-027----), this circular house site (int. diam. 6.2m NW-SE; ext. diam. 10.5m NW-SE) is defined by a spread of stone (Wth 1-3.2m; H 0.2m). A subcircular platform (24m N-S; 20.5m E-W) defined by a low stone and earth bank (av. Wth 2m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.35-1.15m). At NNW the bank is very slightly lower and there is a poorly defined ramp-like feature up to it from the exterior. At SE several metres of the bank have been reduced to a scarp; some loose rubble lies scattered about here. The cashel interior undulates slightly, sloping gently to the S. A kidney-shaped hollow (7m NW-SE; 4.9m NE-SW; D 0.3m) lies just inside the N perimeter and a small oval mound (L 3.5m NW-SE; 1m NE-SW; H 0.15m) lies near the W edge.
