On a very gentle SSW-facing slope, in rough pasture, overlooking a gently undulating landscape in all directions. An oval area (32m N-S; 28m E-W) defined by the remains of a bank which has been reduced to a scarp (Wth 1.2m; H 0.2m). The scarp is very low and almost completely levelled N-NE and ESE-SE. The scarp is not readily visible S-W, due to dense briars, where it abuts a field boundary (long-axis WNW-ESE). Thorn trees grow intermittently around the top of the scarp N-ESE and at W. The faint remains of a very shallow fosse (overall Wth 5.1m; basal Wth 2.7m; D 0.05m) are traceable WNW-E. The interior slopes down very gently to SSW, where it is very poorly drained and poached by livestock. Ringforts (CL035-127001- and CL035-127002-) are c. 18m and 45m to NE, respectively. The following images have been uploaded: CL035-126----_01.jpg From SW. Cross sectional view of scarp and fosse at SE. CL035-126----_02.jpg From SE. View across interior. CL035-126----_03.jpg From N. On a very gentle SSW-facing slope, in rough pasture, overlooking a gently undulating landscape in all directions. Depicted on the 1840 OS map as a roughly circular area (diam. c. 23m) which is abutting a ringfort (CL035-127002-) to NE. This map edition shows a field boundary enclosing the monument to NW and NE. The monument is not depicted on the 25-inch OS map or the 1921 edition of the OS 6-inch map, although the field boundary to NW and NE is shown. Not visible at ground level. There is a slight rise in this area of the field, however very dense rushes obscure any possible surface trace. A ringfort (CL035-126----) is located c. 18m to SW. On a very gentle SSW-facing slope, in rough pasture, overlooking a gently undulating landscape in all directions and abutting a levelled enclosure (CL035-127001-) to SW. Depicted on the 25-inch OS map as a circular area (32m N-S; 33.5m E-W) defined by what appears to be a double enclosing element. These are very low in profile and are completely covered in an impenetrable thicket of briars and furze. The interior is covered in dense rushes (H 0.8m) with briars and furze encroaching around the perimeter. There is a gap in the vegetation at SW and W allowing access into the interior. Three large rocks which are evident at the SW edge of the monument may have derived from the former field boundary at this location. There is no apparent outer fosse. Ringforts (CL035-126---- and CL035-128----) are located c. 45m to SW and c. 120m to NE, respectively. The following images have been uploaded: CL035-127002-_01.jpg From SW. In improved pasture, on the upper portion of a steady SE-facing slope, having good views across lower ground NE-S. Depicted on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a semicircular enclosure (c. 35m NE-SW; c. 21m NW-SE) having been truncated by a field boundary (long-axis NE-SW) to SE. It is shown on the 25-inch OS map as a semicircular enclosure (c. 30m NE-SW; c. 18m NW-SE) defined by a scarp S-NE and a linear boundary (long-axis NE-SW) to SE. The scarp appears to incorporate a field boundary WSW-N on this map edition. The monument survives as a roughly oval area (22m NNE-SSW; 15m WNW-ESE) defined by the low remains of a bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.3m; Wth at top 2.2m; overall Wth 7.45m) S-NNE which is obscured by briars for the most part, with a small clearing at SW. A low, linear field bank (long-axis NE-SW) (Wth 1.2m; H 0.45m) completes the enclosing elements to SE. The interior appears featureless and has a SE-facing slope. Mature deciduous trees, thorns and briars grow around the bank. A ringfort (CL035-127002-) is located c. 120m to SW. The following images have been uploaded: CL035-128----_01.jpg From S. In the SW corner of an improved pasture field, on the upper edge of a gentle W-facing slope, c. 30m to SW of a modern house. A roughly circular area (c. 30m N-S; c. 29m E-W) defined by a low, denuded scarp where seen intermittently and otherwise obscured by briars and trees, having been fenced off and ungrazed for the last number of years (local information). The interior has a gentle W-facing slope and was covered in dense grasses. Briars and ferns were encroaching upon the interior and around the perimeter. The monument forms a field boundary with the improved pasture fields abutting to S and W. The following images have been uploaded: CL035-129----_01.jpg From S. General view of monument. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
