On a narrow level rock-strewn terrace on a moderately steep E-facing slope. Indicated and named ‘Turrenneefa’ on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, a name that might be translated as ‘the little tower of the saint’. On inspection in 1997 there were no visible remains. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Ros Ó Maoldúin Date of upload: 10 May 2021 - CL006-037: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCL006-037----. Situated on a gentle W-facing slope in an area of mixed rough rock and patchy grazing. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). Indicated by a solid line on the 1916 OS 6-inch map. On inspection in 1997 this was found to be an irregular field defined by a partially collapsed single drystone wall. This enclosed field is one of several forming a cluster to the N, E and SE of a ringfort (CL006-159----). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 8 February 2016 - CL006-159: Concentric enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCL006-159----. On a S-facing slope in an upland area with Ailwee Hill rising to the W. Not indicated on the 1840 or 1916 editions of the OS 6-inch map. A concentric enclosure (overall diam. 46.7m) defined by a bank of earth containing a lot of stone (diam. 23m E-W; 21.5m N-S; bank at N: Wth 3.1m; int. H 0.34m; ext. H 0.54m) and an outer bank of similar construction but less well preserved (at SW: Wth 2.34m; int. H 0.19m; ext H 0.51m). The outer bank is surmounted from NW to SE by a well-built later drystone wall. The area between the banks is wide and level at N (Wth 11.7m) and sloping significantly at S (Wth 13.3m). The interior is uneven and there is no definite entrance. At E two parallel tumbled, probably later, walls extend E from the inner bank to the outer. This may not be an original feature. A contemporary wall (Wth 2.57m; H 0.23-0.3m) abuts the outer bank at SW and meanders S where it meets another possibly contemporary wall aligned N-S. A drystone-walled enclosure (CL006-037----) adjoins immediately to the E. This is one of a number of fields to NE, E and SE clustered around the concentric enclosure and all are likely to be associated. A small enclosure (CL006-160----) lies 10m to the NW. The following images have been uploaded: CL006-159----_01.jpg From SW. Overall view of site. CL006-159----_02.jpg From NE. View from outer bank of inner enclosed area. CL006-159----_03.jpg From E. On a S-facing slope in an upland area with Ailwee Hill rising to the W. A subrectangular area (oriented E-W) defined by a low earth and stone bank (at N: Wth 2.7m; ext. H 0.3m; int. H 0.6m; at S: Wth 3.37m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 0.13m). There is an entrance feature at the NW corner (Wth 1.4m) and an earthfast stone (0.8m x 0.5m) lies just outside. The uneven interior is sunken below outer ground level and may have been disturbed in antiquity. A low raised central area (diam. 4.52m; H 0.5m) gives a slight barrow-like appearance and a rough uneven fosse-like area around it appears to be wetter than surrounding areas. This field and others in the immediate area have been reclaimed and clearance cairns (not recent) are evident. A concentric enclosure (CL006-159----) is 10m to the SE in the adjoining field. On a prominent terrace on the SE extent of Ailwee Hill commanding the valley below and within a large multiperiod field system (CL005-104001-/CL006-001---*) stretching all over the hill to the NW. A subrectangular cashel (36m NW-SE; 32m NE-SW) with slightly rounder corners defined by a double-faced wall (Wth 1.2m; H up to 1.2m) with a rubble core. There are a number of gaps in the cashel wall but no distinct entrance feature. Some soil cover remains in the S sector. The SE corner is walled off internally and some tumbled walls within suggest the remains of a house (CL006-212001-). A large oval enclosure (CL006-212002-) is attached at SW and a number of attached walls form a field system (CL006-212003-).
