In improved pasture, on a SW-facing slope with good views across lower ground NE-NW. Depicted on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure abutting a field boundary (long-axis N-S) at E and depicted on the 25-inch OS map as a subcircular enclosure which has a straightened side at E. Named on all OS historic mapping as ‘Bridlepark Fort’. A sub-circular area (24m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by an earthen and stone bank (int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.9m; Wth at top 1.2m; overall Wth 4m) SE-NE which has been straightened NE-SW to form a linear side to E. Thorn trees grow on top of the bank and a large one has fallen into the interior at NW. There is no obvious trace of an outer fosse. A large depression abuts the bank at north and may be associated with quarrying activities for the limekiln which according to the 25-inch OS map, once stood in this field c. 80m to SW. The interior has a gentle SW-facing slope and is covered in dead nettles. The following images have been uploaded: CL035-076----_01.jpg From E. General view of monument. CL035-076----_02.jpg From S. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
