Partially within a deep cutting to the immediate rear of a modern dwelling and partially in an improved pasture field to E, which has an E-facing slope. An irregular, oblong quarry (51m NE-SW; 18.5m NW-SE) is depicted at this location on the 25-inch OS map. A D-shaped feature abuts the quarry to E and is named ‘Lime Kiln (Disused). Similar features are shown on the 1921 edition of the OS 6-inch map, although these are unnamed confirming that it had been abandoned, as per earlier map edition. Not visible at ground level. The limekiln has been removed and the quarry has either been backfilled or forms part of the deep cutting for the dwelling. In either case, this is considered to be a non-archaeological feature. On a very steep NW-facing slope, in a plot of mature oak woodland. Depicted on all OS historic mapping and named ‘Burial Ground’. In 1839, Curry refers to this as ‘Tubber Mochuilla burying ground’ (OSL, vol. 2, 282). A roughly rectangular area (c. 45m NW-SE; c. 40m NE-SW) defined by a low earthen field bank on the upper slope to SE and SW and by a deep land drain to NW and NE. The interior has a very steep NW-facing slope for the most, which levels out to a generally flat area along the NW margin. The steeply sloping area of the burial ground is obscured by dense briars which are broken up by occasional cattle paths. It is heavily poached by cattle to expose an orange-brown clay subsoil. A number of mature trees are defining the margins of this burial ground and some large, mature oaks are located within. Some loose stones are evident strewn across the level margin to NW, although these form no coherent pattern. No potential gravemarkers were noted although dense briars may obscure these. According to local information, adults are laid to rest here as well as children. Rough pasture encloses the burial ground, except to the immediate N, where there is coniferous forestry. A holy well (CL035-072002-) is located off-centre to S. The following images have been uploaded: CL035-072001-_01.jpg From SE. General view of SE side (exterior) of burial ground. Within a burial ground (CL035-072001-), off-centre to S, on a steep NW-facing slope. Depicted and named ‘Tobermochulla’ on all OS historic mapping. Not visible at ground level. According to local information, the old people use to talk about the holy well, which has dried up now as all the large oak trees in the burial ground have taken up the water. Compiled by: Mary Tunney, Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly Date of upload: 11 April 2018 - CL035-150: Ritual site - holy well, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCL035-150----. In improved pasture, in a slight depression at the base of a SSE-facing slope. A field boundary (long axis E-W) is located c. 18m to SSE. Depicted and named ‘Toberknockhall’ on all historic OS mapping. It is not visible at ground level. There is a shallow depression (c. 6m E-W; c. 4.5m N-S; D 0.05m) on the surface of the field at this location. The depression is poorly drained and wet underfoot and likely marks the siting of the former well.
