On a knoll (on the 100’ contour) in scrub-covered limestone pavement, overlooking Lough George c. 330m to the W. Classified as an ‘enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). Hachured on the first edition (1842) of the OS 6-inch map and recorded as an enclosure on the later, Cassini edition (1916). An oval cashel (c. 35m N-S; c. 26m E-W) is defined by a largely rebuilt drystone stone wall (Wth 1-1.8m; H 1-1.2m) standing on and flanked by a spread of collapsed rubble on both the inside (Wth 1-1.2m) and outside (Wth 2m). In pasture at the W end of a low NE-SW ridge. Classified as an enclosure in the RMP (1996). Hachured on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1916) editions of the OS 6-inch maps. A circular bivallate rath (int. diams. 24.3m E-W; 22.8m N-S; ext. diam. 43m) is defined by a broad inner earthen bank, a fosse and a second, outer bank. The inner bank (Wth 6-7m; int. H 0.9-1.3m; ext. H 1.6-2m) has internal stone facing traceable intermittently from E-S-NW. The fosse (Wth at top 5.6-6m; Wth at base 1-2m; ext. D 1m) is round-bottomed and is girdled by the outer bank (Wth c. 2m; H 0.5m) which is best preserved at NW and surmounted for nearly its full course, from N-E-S-W, by a later drystone wall. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2m) at ENE. ‘Kilranaghan’ enclosure (CL017-104002-), containing a burial ground (CL017-104----) lies c. 100m to the E. In pasture on a gentle S-facing slope. Marked and labelled ‘Kilranaghan’ on the first edition (1842) of the OS 6-inch map, and hachured and labelled ‘Kilranaghan Grave Yard’ on the later, Cassini edition (1916) of the map. O’Curry noted ‘a small burial place for children’ in this townland (Comber ed. 1997, 53). A burial ground lies within a subcircular earthen enclosure (CL017-104002-) which is itself enclosed by a later rectilinear enclosure defined by partially hedged, wall with an entrance on its S side. The burial ground contains c. 15 headstones dating from the 1920s. A memorial on the SE wall records that the burial ground was also used during the Great Famine. Westropp (1913, 236) described the site as a ‘large levelled ring’. A large subcircular enclosure (int. diams. 51m E-W; 44m N-S; ext. diams. 61.5m E-W; 55m N-S) is defined by a low wide bank (Wth 4.5-6.5m; H 0.2-0.3m). The interior contains a burial ground (CL017-104----).
