Rubble mound of collapsed circular tower, atop steep E side of Awbeg River valley, immediately W of Rockvale House. Tower collapsed after storm c. 1985, leaving mound of limestone rubble (H c. 1.5m; diam. c. 5m). Photograph (CAS, 1984) shows tower (H c. 6m) built of random-rubble limestone, with large 1st-floor window, topped by projecting stones cornice. According to owner, it was 3-storey over basement with door ope to E. Grove White (1905-25, vol. 4, 183) refers to tower as a columbarium; photograph (ibid. opp. 183) taken in 1906 shows circular tower, unroofed, with lintelled ground-floor door. However, present owner does not recall any nesting boxes within tower. Rockvale House, of mid-19th-century appearance; front elevation (N) is 3-bay, 2-storey with Wyatt windows; gable-ended, chimneys on gables; according to owner, replaced earlier house, some walls of which survive on W side of present house. In woodland, atop steep E side of Awbeg River; immediately E of holy well (CO026-189---) and c. 400m S of Rockvale house and Tower (CO026-112---). Remains of stone-built rectangular structure (6m E-W; 6.6m N-S) with rectangular projection on E end of N side; walls (T c. 0.75m) stand to c. 3.5m high. External wall faced with irregular and unusual stones; internal walls smooth with some plaster fragments; some brick visible in E wall. Remains of possible door ope (Wth. 1.2m) in E wall. Described by Grove White (1905-25, vol. 4, 183) as 'a ruin built of very rude natural undressed stones, the walls being unusually thick. The doorway has a pointed arch...used as a summer house in 1841...erected as a teahouse by a Mrs Nagle. It was then thatched.' According to local information, there was a church site here. Surrounded by displaced large stones which according to landowner, formerly lined the well. According to O'Reilly (1987, 130), called St Peter's well, no patterns were held there. Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1800, having lower three-bay two-storey block and four-bay single-storey lean-to addition to rear. Pitched slate roof with rendered end chimneystacks. Pitched slate roof to return and flat roofs to extensions. Painted rendered walls. Square-headed tripartite openings with limestone sills and timber sliding sash windows, three-over-six pane to first floor and six-over-six pane to ground floor. Middle bay of first floor has three-over-six pane window. Two-storey rear addition has three-over-three pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor and six-over-six pane to ground floor. Round-headed entrance doorway having spoked fanlight and half-glazed timber panelled door with flanking Doric-style engaged columns having limestone plinths, moulded entablature, and limestone threshold and flagstone paving. Ashlar limestone square-profile piers to road entrance with carved caps and plinths and having double-leaf cast-iron gates.
