The level interior, which is occupied by grass-covered stones, is raised (H 0.2m) at the N and cut (D 0.15m) into the upslope at the S to compensate for the hillslope. A break (Wth 0.4m) at the NE may indicate the entrance location. There is an enclosure (CO102-030010-) c. 70m to the NE. A roughly circular (diam. c. 6m N-S; c. 7m E-W) mound of earth and stone with a depression (diam. c. 2m) off-centre to E. Walling is visible internally at SE. This may be the remains of a hut site. Subsequent to being published in vol. 1 of the Cork Inventory (Power et al. 1992) this hut site was excavated by W. O'Brien in 2003 (O'Brien 2006, 39). Excavation revealed it to be a substantial house with an entrance at E leading into a circular room (2.35m by 2.15m). A horseshoe shaped annexe to this room was on its W side and contained a hearth. Charcoal from the hearth was radiocarbon dated to 2465±20BP (GrN-28302) placing the house in the Late Bronze Age. Conservation work was carried out after excavation. In a coniferous forest, on a NW-facing slope overlooking Barrees valley. The souterrain was discovered during the construction of a forest road. It consists of two semicircular openings, 0.8m apart, on the W side of the road at the base of a N-S earthen bank (H 2m). The S opening (Wth 1m; H 0.3m), which is the smaller of the two, reveals the top of a largely collapsed earth-cut chamber. The N opening (Wth 2m; H 0.85m) reveals the earth-cut arched roof of a chamber extending 2m to the W and then narrowing as it slopes down to the S. In rough hill pasture, on a NE-facing slope. The remains of relict stone field boundaries (T 0.6m; H 0.1-0.4m) protrude above the surface of the bog in a roughly rectangular area (c. 180m NE-SW x c. 160m NW-SE). The relict walls, through which several gaps occur, are mainly curvilinear. Many stones are set at right angles to the line of the wall. An enclosure (CO102-030010-) is c. 70m to the NW. An oval depression (4.4m x 3.3m; D 0.3m) adjacent to a stream was excavated in 2003. Excavation revealed a steep-sided pit (D 0.55m) containing a waterlogged peaty fill with preserved branches and twigs overlying a compact layer of charcoal. The charcoal was radiocarbon dated to 585±20 BP (GrN-28305) suggesting a later medieval context for what may be a charcoal kiln or a large roasting pit.
