In ringfort (8103). Coleman (1947, 71) noted 'in the western section of the enclosure are the remains of a destroyed souterrain. From the traces remaining, it appears to have had massive lintels and drystone walling'. InN side of ringfort four oval-shaped depressions running roughly E-W (D0.5m-1m) over a length of c. 9.6m (max. Wth 3m) indicate collapsed souterrain; apparently earth-cut although stones are exposed in one depression. Bank partially levelled and extensively disturbed where it survives. Field fence curves concentric to fort 12m to N; may incorporate remains of outer bank. Described by Coleman (1947, 71) as 'well preserved single ramparted fort 130ft in diameter, with remains of a fosse'. Souterrain (8856) in interior. In SE quadrant of ringfort (8104). Coleman (1947, 71) noted that 'a trench 10ft long shows the remains of corbelled side walls and at the northern end, a semi-circular corbelled wall is seen. The trench varies between 2ftand 3ft wide'. Depression (L 6m; Wth 3.6m; D 1m; long axis N-S) still visible inside E bank. Ogham stone (7956) found within. Discovered by Cork antiquarians in a souterrain (CO042-052002-) of a ringfort (CO042-052001-) and deposited in the museum of the Royal Cork Institution in 1835. It subsequently disappeared, probably when the Institution building was replaced by the Athenaeum in 1853 (White 1905-18, vol. 1, 322). A drawing of the stone (1.68m x 0.48m x 0.2m, converted from Macalister 1945) by John Windele shows a clear inscription which Macalister (1945, 61, no. 56) gave as SAGITTARI. The interpretation of this inscription was the subject of much debate in the 19th century (ibid.). The Greenhill ogham stones are c. 900m to NW (CO042-049001-, CO042-049002-). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
