In pasture on low E-facing slope. Circular area (5.5m N-S) defined by earthen bank (H 0.8m) SSW->NE. Bank partially stone-faced internally. Interior overgrown. According to local information the ground collapsed here during ploughing many years ago. Underground passages, with rounded roofs cut from stiff clay, were revealed running in a SE direction for c. 8m and some more passages ran in a SW direction. A slight depression (D c. 0.5m) indicates the location of the collapsed area but the entrance to the passages is now closed up. This is also the location of a possible cashel (CO127-030002-). In pasture, with good views over the surrounding countryside. According to local information, this was the location of the stone fort that gave its name to this townland: Cathair Garbh. The possible cashel is not visible at ground level. It may have been associated with a souterrain (CO127-030001-), which is also at this location. A hut site (CO127-030002-) lies c. 70m to the NE. According to local information, its original location (CO127-067----) was in a field known as 'Páirc a' Ghalláin'. Its precise location in the field is not known.
