In rough hill pasture, on cutaway bog, on a W-facing slope overlooking the valley of the Canrooska River. A network of mainly curvilinear, relict, stone field boundaries (T 0.6m; H 0.4m), which protrude above the surface of the remaining shallow bog, covers an irregularly shaped area (c. 150m N-S; c. 100m E-W). Many of the stones in the relict boundaries are set at right angles to the line of the walls. A stone row (CO090-006001-), a five-stone circle (CO090-006002-) and a cairn (CO090-006003-) are located within the field boundary network. This is the most southerly of two wedge tombs situated on a gently sloping terrace in blanket bog at the head of the Canrooska River valley on the upper slopes of Barraboy Mountain; there are fine views from the monument to the S, overlooking Glengarriff Harbour and Bantry Bay. The remains comprise a gallery (L 3.2m; Wth 1.25m at W, narrowing to c. 0.75m at E), aligned NE-SW, largely enveloped in peat. The N side is formed by at least three stones and the tops of two others are exposed on the S side; the E end is closed by a backstone. The W end is sealed by a substantial septal-stone inset in the gallery sides and is fronted by a portico formed by single orthostats on each side with two further jamb-like stones set inside them. The E section of the chamber is flanked by three close-set outer-wall stones along the N and S sides. An inclined slab protruding from the peat immediately W of the portico may represent some other element of closure at this end or it could delimit the W end of the outer-walling. The gallery is covered by two partially displaced roofstones (W slab: 2.2m x 1.45m; T c. 0.12m; E slab: 1.8m x 2.3m; Wth c. 0.15m). The second wedge tomb (CO090-021002-) is 20m to the N. This is the most northerly of two wedge tombs situated on a gently sloping terrace in blanket bog at the head of the Canrooska River valley on the upper slopes of Barraboy Mountain; there are fine views from the monument to the S overlooking Glengarriff Harbour and Bantry Bay. It consists of a gallery (L c. 3.4m; Wth 1.35 at W, narrowing to c. 0.85m at E), aligned ENE-WSW, largely enveloped in peat. The N side is formed by four stones and three are visible along the S side; the E end is closed by an inset backstone. The W end is partially closed by a transversely set septal-like slab abutting the W stone of the S side; this leaves an entrance gap of 0.5m. A single, close-set outer-wall stone is exposed along the N side. The gallery is covered by three partially displaced roofstones. The W stone (2.6m x 1.6m; T 0.15-0.2m) partially overlaps the second (1.5m x 1.4m; T 0.2m). The third (1.7m x 0.8m; T c. 0.15m) covers the E end of the gallery. The second wedge tomb (CO090-021001-) is 20m to the S and there is a standing stone (CO090-034----) c. 200m to the NW. This standing stone (1.6m x 0.7m; H 1.45m) is rectangular in plan and section and is orientated NNW-SSE. Two wedge tombs (CO090-021001-, CO090-021002-) are c. 180m to the SE. In rough pasture, on the summit of Barraboy Mountain. A partly grass-covered circular cairn (3.8m E-W; 3.7m N-S; H 0.5m) comprising stones of various shapes and sizes, protruding from the peat. The cairn is defined by a scarp (H 0.3m) along the circumference N-SE and by a low bank of earth and stone SE-SW. Stones from the cairn are scattered downslope at NW.
