A smaller area of similar material was also identified, 1.5m to the W. This possible burnt mound remains in situ, covered with a sheet of membrane and overlain with soil, 1m in depth. (Lane 2006, 45-6) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Adjacent the northern boundary of the Church of St Barrahane and associated graveyard, (CO142-079002-) prehistoric archaeology was exposed in the form of a well preserved burnt mound. It was just below the topsoil and its characteristic mound is still visible in the landscape. The burnt mound measures 23m x 13m and a test pit excavated through the mound indicates that it has a depth of 0.50m. The burnt mound was visible as a deposit of black silty sand which had frequent inclusions of heat affected sandstone fragments. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
