In rough pasture, on the NE bank of a river on the lower NW-facing slopes of Miskish Mountain with clear views over Coulagh Bay. The rath survives as a damaged earthen bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.85m) which forms an arc (L 23m; C 17m) SE-NW. Each end of the arc abuts the SW face of a linear NW-SE recent field boundary of earth and stone. According to local information the remainder of the enclosing bank existed 'long ago' on the NE side of the field boundary. It is no longer visible at ground level. The remaining bank is partially covered by gorse and briars and contains a souterrain (CO114-072002-) in its inner face. In a rath (CO114-072001-), close to the inner face of the enclosing bank. A trench (L 3m), densely covered with overgrowth, leads through the bank to a lintelled NW-facing opening (Wth 1.1m; H 0.5m). The lintels rest on earthen side-walls. The opening leads down into a passage (L 2m) which is blocked at its far end. A large stone on the bank of the rath, to the NW of the opening, may be a displaced lintel. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
