In pasture on gentle S-facing slope with commanding view to SW of sea. Burial-ground (CO136-070001-) c. 10m to SE. Shown on OS 6-inch map (1842) as rectangular structure. Noted by Lewis (1837, vol. 1, 481) as "a solitary square tower of very rude character; it has no windows, but two entrances, one from the ground and the other at some height above it". Triangular area (L 15m; Wth 11m) projecting SW into Clonakilty Bay. Defended at junction with mainland by earthen bank (H 4.35m) with natural downslope on landward side. According to local information, this is the site of a church. There are no visible remains of this possible church. A children's burial ground (vol. 1, no. 2819) and the site of an unclassified castle (vol. 1, no. 3034) lie c. 150m to the SW. In outcropping rock, on a steep SW-facing slope, c. 50m NE of the shoreline. Two irregularly shaped hollows (0.72m x 0.8m; D 0.42m and 1.25m x 1.15m; D 0.35m, respectively) in the rock are filled with water. According to local information, there is a local tradition of monks walking across the hill to collect water from the well.
