In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; no visible surface trace. According to local information, field known as fort field. One of two levelled single-ramparted forts (diam. c. 27yd and c. 35yd) recorded by Bowman (1934, 553) on W.Mullane's land. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). Depicted as hachured quadrilateral enclosure (c. 30m E-W; c. 20m N-S) on 1842 OS 6-inch map, and incorporated into field boundary system to E and S. In level pasture. Levelled; no visible surface trace. According to local information, field known as 'the black field' because it is very wet. May be one of two levelled single-ramparted forts (diam. c. 27yd and 35yd respectively) recorded by Bowman (1934, 553) on W. Mullane's land. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In pasture, at bend of stream and above steep-sided glen. Circular area (35m NE-SW; 32.5m NNW-SSE) enclosed by two earthen banks NE->SSW (inner bank: int. H 0.4m; middle bank: int. H 1.2m to base of fosse) with intervening fosse; three earthen banks SSW->NE (outer bank: H 0.9m) with intervening fosses. Banks WSW->NE terraced down steep slope into glen, with low inner heights. Middle bank incorporated into boundary system ESE->WSW; banks broken through to WSW by field boundary. Interior slopes down to NW. In pasture, on N-facing slope. Depicted as hachured subcircular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842, 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps, incorporated into NW corner of field. Arc formed by earthen bank (int. H 1.2m; ext. H 1.2m) survives in field boundary system SW->NNE. Bank heavily overgrown. Interior raised on N side to compensate for hillslope. Probably one of two levelled, single-ramparted forts (diam. c. 31yd and c. 34yd) recorded by Bowman (1934, 554) on J.Sheehan's land. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). Fosse survives as slight slope down to base of bank. Stone-faced field boundary (H 1.4m) skirts fosse N->NE. Gap in bank to NE leading into fosse; break (Wth 3m) to SSW. Interior cut into hillside on SE side and raised on NW side to compensate for hillslope. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. In tillage, on gentle NNW-facing slope. Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as hachured arc formed by bank ESE->NW and by hachured linear field boundary to N and E; arc to S remains hachured on 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch map; field boundary to N and E not shown on 1938 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (diam. c. 38m) enclosed by barely preceptable rise NW->ESE, soilmark of bank ESE->SW and by curved (1938 OS 6-inch map) field boundary to W. Field boundary survives, but due to field clearance material dumped against it, an examination was not possible. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 553) as levelled single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 43yd) on Mrs Buckley's land. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. External fosse to NNW survives as slight slope down to base of bank. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. In pasture, near top of hill. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842, 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps; external fosse hachured on 1938 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (diam. c. 44m) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1m; ext. H 1.1m) surviving in field boundary system NNE->ENE; as low rise to E and from W->NNE. Bowman (1934, 554) recorded site as levelled. Possible souterrain (CO041-180---) in interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. H 0.8m) survives NW->ESE incorporated into field fence system and to S as low rise in field. Waterlogging in SE quadrant of interior may be due to 'spring well at South end' mentioned by Bowman (1934, 553) and depicted in fosse to S on 1938 OS 6-inch map. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
