In rough grazing, on break in W-facing slope. Circular raised area (21m N-S; 21m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.2m) with external fosse (D 0.2m) S->E. Entrance (Wth 1.7m) to SE, defined by pair of orthostats on each side. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009 - CO115-078: Hut site, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCO115-078----. In rough hill pasture, on bog, on the N bank of the Kealincha River. The jumbled remains of an oval hut site (8m NE-SW; 6.8m NW-SE) defined by a collapsed drystone wall (T 0.65m; H 0.4m), which includes some large stones in its lower courses. Rubble is scattered internally and externally and the entire hut site is obscured by rushes. A rath (CO115-006----) and a network of pre-bog field boundaries (CO115-079----) are at the opposite bank of the river, c. 60m to the SE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009 - CO115-079: Field boundary, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCO115-079----. In rough hill pasture, on bog, on a W-facing slope. A network of relict stone field boundaries (max. T 0.6m; max. H 0.55m) protrudes intermittently above the surface of the bog in a roughly rectangular area (c. 380m ENE-WSW; c. 150m NNW-SSE). Turf-cutting shows that the bog is 0.2-1m deep. Traces of walls were also noted in the cutaway bog, where the base stones are set on the underlying mineral soil. This suggests that most of the walls in this area are pre-bog field boundaries. At the WSW end of the network, walls protrude from the bog and radiate out from a rath (CO115-006----) and appear to be associated with it. There is a hut site (CO115-078----) on the opposite bank of the river, c. 60m to the NW. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
