Levelled; arc formed by earthen bank survives on N side, incorporated into field fence system to NNW. Fosse survives as slight depression visible E->SSW. Interior (diam. c. 27.2m N-S) raised on NE side by c. 0.95m. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 18) as single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 30yd) on T. Ludgate's land, with bank c. 5ft H and interior c. 2ft higher than outside field level. Possible souterrain (CO032-215---) in interior. Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as rectangular field (c. 45m ENE-WSW; c. 55m SSE-NNW) named 'Old Burial Ground'; field shown on 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps but not named. In SW quadrant of possible early ecclesiastical enclosure (13900). Rectangular field defined to W by farm buildings and stone wall; stone wall continues along W end of S side; elsewhere enclosed by stone-faced earthen bank, most substantial to N (ext. H 1.4m) where it borders road. No visible surface trace of burials or burial markers. Bowman (1934, 18) noted grass-covered mounds, possibly indicating church (14497) on N side of burial ground and 'Ten headstones, varying from 8 to 12 inches high, mark the sites of graves'. Possibly the same burial ground as that mentioned by Grove White (1905-25, vol. 1, 128) 'At Kilgoban is a rath used from time immemorial as a burial place for stillborn children'. In pasture, on ENE-facing slope. Roughly oval enclosure (max. L c. 240m NE-SW) cut by Finnow Stream from S to NW and by crossroad with roads exiting enclosure to E, S, W and NW. Interior defined by earthen bank (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.4m) S->SW with external fosse (max. D 1m), by stone wall of graveyard respecting line of enclosure SW->W, by low rise (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.5m) W->NW with shallow external fosse (D 0.5m), by shallow depression NW->N, by earthen bank (int. H 1.6m; ext. H 1.5m) with external fosse (D 1m) N->ENE. No visible surface trace of enclosing element ENE->S. Graveyard (14116) at W side of enclosure, to S of W road. Small roughly square field to E of graveyard; three low upright uninscribed stones (H 0.27m) at E end of field may be gravemarkers. Within enclosure and to S of graveyard are concrete foundations for new house. Maybe the 'rath' referred to by Grove White (1905-25, vol. 1, 128) as in Kilgobban and used as burial ground for children. According to Pipe Roll of Cloyne, 'in the middle of the estate of Gortonocros, [are] three acres of land which were once a cemetery' (MacCotter and Nicholls 1996, 28-29); latter located by Power (1932, 117) as near Ath na Ceall (Ford of the Churches) which is mentioned in Crichad an Chaoilli. - Longueville School, school, 1885–1895, Regional interest, registry number 20903224, https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=CO&regno=20903224. Detached T-plan single-storey school with attic, dated 1890, having three-bay main elevations to west and south, both having gabled porches, with three-bay single-storey lean-to block along east elevation. Currently in use as private house. Pitched artificial slate roof having gabled dormer window to east elevation, cast-iron finials and limestone kneelers to gables and limestone ashlar chimneystacks with terracotta chimney pots. Tooled snecked ashlar limestone walls with projecting limestone quoins, limestone plinth course and limestone brackets. Limestone plaques to porches, south having carved limestone cross above. Square-headed window openings having cut raised limestone surrounds and label-mouldings with replacement timber casement and uPVC windows. Square-headed door openings having replacement timber panelled and timber battened doors. Doorway to east end of lean-to part has steps and flat concrete canopy. Coursed rubble stone boundary walls with curved render copings terminating in square-plan limestone ashlar piers with pyramidal caps and decorative double-leaf cast-iron vehicular gates.
