In a coniferous plantation, on a NNE-facing slope. A large mound (diam. c. 18m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil, densely covered with overgrowth of ferns and briars. The burnt material is visible in section in a trench (D 1m) which has been cut through the mound. A hawthorn tree grows on the mound. A spread of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was noted for c. 13m in a N-S direction along the line of a levelled field boundary, where the meadow grass is patchy. Due to the grass cover, it was not possible to establish the shape of the spread, but it was visible for c. 1-2m on either side of the line of the levelled boundary.
