Power (1932, 90) suggests church built on site of earlier parish church. Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 220) describes it as 'an old structure,...thoroughly repaired'. According to local information, built c.1720s. In 1885 considerable structural alterations and improvements were made including addition of chancel, spire, bell etc. (Cole 1903, 224). Two-storey, rectangular structure (long axis N-S) of random-rubble limestone construction with ashlar detail. Front elevation (W) of 4 bays with 2-bay central pedimented breakfront, blind oculus in pediment. Four-bay arcade with semicircular arches on ground floor, arcade infilled with windows and door. String course divides ground and 1st floor. Two round-headed sash windows in breakfront on 1st floor with rectangular sash windows on either side. South elevation has repaired flat-arched ground floor door ope. North elevation has inserted window, chimney atop wall. Lean-to extension to rear at N end, partially housing steps up to 1st-floor door. Wide modern opening on ground floor, modern chimney atop wall. Hipped roof. Restored in early 1980s and now in commercial use. Though Kilworth listed as market town in 1299 (O'Brien 1993, 94), little is known of settlement here until early 17th century when it became property of Fleetwood family (Bewley 1908, 103-125); in 1685 described as 'a market town' (Johnston 1902, 356) and by 1750 it was 'a thriving place...through which a good turnpike road is carried from Dublin' (Smith 1750, vol. 2, 347).
