In NW quadrant of ringfort (CO072-078001-). Excavations in 1910 by Messrs. Cremin and Murphy revealed a chamber which was described by Lee (1911, 59) as 'nine feet square, roofed by large flag stone supported on massive uprights'. 'Entrances to a south-eastern chamber and also one to the north-east' were inaccessible (ibid.). In the same report further information is added by Mr. Cremin who noted that the chamber was '7 feet high. The roofing flags are 9 feet in the clear and about 18 inches wide, while the supporting pillars are 7 feet high by 12 inches wide and 9 inches thick' (ibid., 61-2). Souterrain now indicated by L-shaped depression (D c. 1m) running for 6m NW-SE and then 3m NE. Third stone lies adjacent to these to NW but is almost completely grass-covered. Site heavily overgrown with briars. Hartnett (1939, 116) recorded two standing stones. Bank incorporated into field fence system NNW->NE. Growth of furze bushes roughly on line of levelled bank encloses interior on E side. Scarp face and edge of interior also heavily overgrown with furze. Fosse (D 0.8m) survives for short section to NE where field fence joins bank. Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c.1880, having gable-fronted dormers and simple shopfront to front (south-east). Formerly also in use as post office and shop. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods, having terracotta ridge cresting and timber bargeboards to dormers. Rendered walls with raised render shamrock motif to dormer gables. Square-headed window openings with tooled limestone sills throughout, having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, moulded render label mouldings to ground floor openings. Round-headed door openings having moulded render surrounds and timber panelled doors with overlights.
