N-S) enclosed by stone wall. North wall of enclosure joins E and W gables of church close to S ends; S wall of church forms part of N side. Outside enclosed area, raised area defined by scarped edge (H c. 1m), continuing line of graveyard wall on W side for c. 10m to N, turning E and extending c. 3m outside N and E walls of church, before meeting N wall of graveyard; this is sole visible remains of N half of graveyard as shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map. H 4.5m), reduced to H 1m at N side. Line of N wall marked by rubble at E end, at W end by low wall (H 1m), lined with rubble internally. South wall survives best to E (max. H 4m), reduced to rubble to W; roughly blocked ope (Wth 2m), c. 1m W of E gable, extends to full height of wall but may be remains of window ope. West gable survives to near full height, but masked by ivy. Remains of parish church of Lackeen. Reported out of use in 1615, in ruins by 1774 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 299-301). In level rough grazing. Trapezium-shaped area (76m N-S; at N side 59.6m E-W; at S side 35m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.2m) with external fosse (D 1m) and shallow second fosse (D 0.2m) c. 3m outside first. Bank survives best on E side where there is break at N end. On S side bank noticeably lower. West bank low and wide with breaks in two places (near S end: Wth 4m; near N end: Wth 2.1m). Break in N bank (Wth 7m) close to W end, now blocked by stone wall with 1m gap remaining; bank to E of gap wide with outer face raised and shallow depression inside; lime kiln (ruined) incorporated into NE corner of bank. Growth of rushes along outer shallow fosse except at NE corner. Interior pocked with quarry pits. On 1937 OS 6-inch map, stream shown flowing from NW corner to join Awbeg River c. 1.26km to N. Hipped roof of slate with slightly projecting eaves; two off-centre chimneys of cut stone. Central round-headed stairway window at rear. Two 1-storey gabled projections to rear on NE side. Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1830, having recent single-bay single-storey hipped projection to north gable, two-bay single-storey and single-bay single-storey pitched projections and courtyard of outbuildings to rear (east). Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles, and limestone ashlar chimneystacks having terracotta chimney pots. Coursed limestone rubble walls. Square-headed window openings, having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to front elevation and four-over-two pane double sash windows and round-headed six-over-six pane window to rear, all with limestone sills. Some replacement uPVC sash windows to rear projections, replacement timber casement to north side projection. Round-headed door opening having tooled limestone voussoirs, moulded archivolt obscuring date to tooled limestone date-stone, timber panelled door with cast-iron door furniture and spoked timber fanlight, flanked by engaged colums with plinths and capitals, approached by two diminishing limestone steps. Outbuildings to rear separated from house by coursed rubble wall having recent timber battened double-leaf gates. Five-bay single-storey building to east and four-bay single-storey to south, having pitched corrugated-asbestos roofs, coursed limestone rubble and rendered walls, remains of timber casement windows and corrugated-iron doors. Recent single-storey open-sided barrel corrugated-iron roof barn to north. Curved coursed rubble entrance walls terminating in square-plan piers with pointed caps and double-leaf wrought-iron gates.
