This site was identified during afforestation, but did not appear to have been damaged by these works. It presented as a raised, dry area in the northeastern corner of a rush-covered field that slopes gradually to the south. Two small patches of burnt mound material were exposed immediately under the sod. These comprised charcoal-rich soil with frequent burnt/heat-affected stone typically associated with sites of this kind. The site measured 30m east-west by 25m north-south. Compiled by: Melanie McQuade, Archaeologist, Forest Service. Date of upload: 22 June 2015 - CO044-110: Burnt spread, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CCO044-110----. A spread of heat affected material with fire-cracked stone that may represent a cooking pit or the remains of a small burnt mound was discovered several metres to the south of the burnt mound [CO044-109----]. This feature is most probably associated with the larger burnt mound. It was exposed on the ground surface between two drains (but had not been cut by either of the drains). This feature measured c. 2.5m east-west by 1.2m north-south. Compiled by: Melanie McQuade, Archaeologist, Forest Service. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
