On S-facing slope, above sharp fall in ground to S, within possible early ecclesiastical site (13905). Described by Smith (1750, vol. 1, 294) as 'stump of a round tower'. OS archives for 1844 (Walsh 1987a, 145) describe 'semi-circular foundation about 2 feet above the general surface of the ground'; solid line of foundations extends on sketch plan SE->NW, rest of circle (diam. c. 7.5m) marked by broken line (ibid.). On E side of road, within early ecclesiastical site (13905). Rectangular graveyard (c. 95m E-W; c. 35m N-S); once contained parish church of Nohavaldaly (14447). The 1842 OS 6-inch map shows graveyard confined to E half of present area, but 1904 OS 6-inch map shows it extended W to meet road; map also shows extension of graveyard to N, this was defined by area with 'its surface being more irregular than any other portion of the same field' (Walsh 1987a, 145). Rounds were paid in the graveyard on 11th-12th December, taking in three priest's graves and tomb, said to incorporate altar-stone of early church; rounds moved on to holy well (14028) c. 1 mile to N, on 13th December, St Finian's day (Bowman 1934, 664). Round tower (13907) on high ground towards N end of site; graveyard and site of church (14612) c. 55m to S; possible souterrain (13425) under site of round tower. No clear evidence for enclosing element evident, although line of road to NW and SW may indicate curve of enclosure. Sketch from OS archives for 1844 (Walsh 1987a, 144-5) depicts 'site of old church yard walls'. N-S wall connects NW corner of church with round tower and forms W side of rectangular enclosure (c. 17.5m N-S; c. 37.5m E-W), on N side of graveyard (ibid.). Interior of rectangular enclosure described as 'being more irregular than any other portion to the same field' (ibid.). O'Flanagan (1844, 166) noted walls of a structure traceable outside graveyard, apparently a dwelling 'of the castellated kind', said to be standing to a considerable height c. 1800. Pair of large quern stones (diam. 2ft 6in) found 'many years ago' in field adjoining and to SW of graveyard, a wooden bowl (diam. 16in, D 5in) was found in bog to SW of church site (Bowman 1934, 664).
