Entrance front (NW) of 3 bays with slightly irregular fenestration, the end bay is part of a bow-ended addition at SW end of house. Central round-headed door ope with pedimented wooden surround, door recessed. Rectangular sash windows (ground-floor windows recently blocked); second floor sash windows have segmental-headed opes. Window opes in added bay at SW end of front elevation are set higher than the other windows, accommodating high-ceilinged rooms within. Addition at SW end has bow-fronted end elevation (SW) with large tripartite sash windows on each floor. Hipped roof over house also covers bow front. Gable-ended to NE with 2-storey kitchen addition, attic window visible. Central segmental-headed window in middle of rear elevation. Chimney atop NE gable, second chimney off-centre to SW. House built on corner of boundary around Charleville House (14930) and may contain part of earlier structure associated with earlier house though there is no evident features in house of that date. Long 1-storey range of farm buildings extends to rear, one accommodating horse stalls. On NE side of Charleville. Built and designed by Roger Boyle (Lord Orrery and President of Munster) as his seat; foundation stone laid 29th May 1661 (Bernard 1993, 322-4). Not finished until c. 1680, at a total cost of about £20,000 (ibid.); regarded as one of Ireland's greatest houses of this period. No plans or illustrations of house survive; according to Craig (1982, 138), it 'occupied one side of a walled court and could be defended with 16 guns'; Smith (1750, vol. 1, 303) refers to its 'noble garden and fine park'. House burnt in 1690 and subsequently demolished (ibid.). No visible surface trace of house but some demesne features evident in vicinity of Moatville House (14929). Moatville stands at W corner of square field (L c. 120m) which is enclosed by ivy-clad stone wall (H c. 3m; Wth 0.65m); this field may have been site of house. High stone walls like these, enclosing courtyard around central house, are a feature of late-17th-century houses. In centre of NE wall of this field is very ruined opening; this may have been gateway into garden as it lines up with remains of four fish ponds (14964) in next field. The 1842 OS 6-inch map shows, extending to NE and SW from these two fields, two parallel field boundaries c. 50m apart; nothing appears to survive of SW line (L c. 350m) which ran to main street of Charleville, but much of NE line survives as earthen field fences (L c. 550m) terminating at public road on Limerick/Cork border. Area immediately SE of walled field now occupied by Golden Vale Co-operative industrial plant. Arched ope, where power was transferred into mill from water wheel, now blocked with bearing stone for suspension water wheel. Tailrace runs off to NE. Internal wooden floors survive, but machinery removed. Used until recently for animal feed production by Morrisseys & Sons. Roof collapsed subsequent to site inspection. Deconsecrated in 1960's and roof removed; 17th century font removed to Doneraile C of I Church (14716). Renovated and converted to library in 1990. Rectangular graveyard (c. 100m ENE-WSW; c. 40m NNE-SSW), enclosed by stone walls; early-19th to mid-20th century headstones and burial vaults; headstones relocated along enclosing walls when graveyard turned into town park in late 1960's. Pitched artificial slate roofs. Tooled limestone walls with plinth, sill course, buttresses to all corners, and chamfered surrounds to openings, with hood mouldings and carved stops. Clock to tower second stage. Three-light window to chancel, with lancets to nave, and double lancet windows to tower. Replacement uPVC fittings to all window openings. Pointed arch door opening in link bay, with limestone block-and-start surround and timber battened door. Cut limestone boundary wall to front of site, with flight of limestone steps projecting into street, having ornate cast-iron railings terminating in fluted cast-iron columns, and pedestrian double-leaf gate cast by McSwiney of Cork. Pointed arch opening in rendered wall to north-west giving access to rear of complex, having cast-iron gate, with gablet having coping and cross finial above. Pointed Tudor opening with slightly advanced brick surround in random rubble limestone wall adjoining school house to south-west, having ornate cast-iron pedestrian gate. Carved timber gazebo to garden, with pitched corrugated iron roof. Graveyard to site, with cast-iron crosses.

Smooth rendered walls with render quoins to corners and to breakfront, and having render chamfered plinth. Render niche containing statue to upper gable of breakfront. Round-headed openings to porch and to breakfront, and segmental-headed elsewhere, some double, with replacement uPVC windows, render surrounds and tooled limestone sills. Segmental-headed door opening approached by flight of limestone steps, having carved timber double-leaf door with overlight. Decorative cast-iron pedestrian gate to site. Garden to north-east, between school and convent.

Segmental-headed window openings, with round-headed first floor window to rear addition, all with chamfered render surrounds having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows with painted rendered sills. Segmental-headed entrance opening with replacement timber door. Rendered boundary wall to site. House set back slightly from the street.

Snecked limestone walls with quatrefoil motifs to upper gable ends, and having carved limestone plaque to front, east, elevation with inscribed name and date. Roughly dressed limestone voussoirs to all openings. Square-headed window openings, slightly cambered to first floor rear, with cut limestone sills. Some six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to rear, replacement uPVC elsewhere. Brick surrounds to window openings in addition. Square-headed door opening to front elevation with replacement timber door. Elliptical-headed opening to north gable having timber battened double doors and approached by flight of cut limestone steps with replacement railings and supported by round arch. Segmental-headed door opening to first floor of south gable, now blocked up. Square-headed door openings to rear, with replacement timber doors. Pair of square-profile roughcast rendered piers surmounted by lamps with replacement gates. Site bounded by roughcast rendered walls with rendered coping. Square-headed side entrance to east wall with dressed limestone surround and timber battened door. Set back from the street.

Site bounded by painted rendered walls with spear-headed railings and square-profile piers with ornate caps. Set back slightly from the road.
