The pits did not contain any finds to suggest a function or determine their nature. Charcoal from one of the pits was identified as hazel and returned a radiocarbon date of 110 cal. BC-AD 130 cal. A spread (diam. c. 10m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was uncovered during testing in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. Subsequent excavation in 2003 revealed that the spread overlay associated pits, a trough containing a number of stake-holes as well as a stone-flanked channel (D 0.7m) on an E-W orientation which was enclosed by a stone-lined slot trench (diam. 4m) with associated post-holes and entrance feature. Connected to the E via a step upwards was a second oval-shaped structure with large stone slabs laid along the base; stone walls further enclosed the cut on the E, N and S sides. The radiocarbon dates obtained from this fulacht fia indicate that it was in use from the Early/Middle Bronze Age (NRA website). Discovered in 2002 during archaeological investigations in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. Subsequent excavations in 2003 revealed a curving drainage trench (1.7m N-S x 0.5m; D 0.23m) which abutted a circular pit (diam. 1.24m; D 0.57m). This pit was connected to a similar pit (diam. 1.4m; D 0.55m) to the N via a linear gully. The drainage trench and the two associated pits were interpreted as a water collection feature where the gully acted as an 'overflow' from the S pit into the N pit, where the water was collected and stored (O'Connell 2006k, 50). The basal fill of the feature returned radiocarbon dates 1630-1380 cal. BC (ibid.). In addition, seven sherds of pottery, identified as middle Bronze Age domestic cordoned urn ware, were recovered from the basal fills of the N pit. A concentration of miscellaneous excavated features (CO053-111----) and a kiln (CO053-105----) were discovered in the nearby vicinity. This isolated kiln was excavated along the route of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass in 2003. This figure-of-eight-shaped kiln consisted of a clay-cut, combined, roughly circular stokehole/flue (diam. 1.4m; D 0.2m) and an adjoining subrectangular drying chamber (1m x 0.8m; D 0.2m) both of which were heavily oxidised at the base, with an overlying charcoal-enriched layer. Charcoal recovered from the carbonised layer in the drying chamber returned a date of cal. AD 410-650. According to the excavator (O'Connell 2006k, 51), barley was the predominant cereal identified in the kiln. A series of excavated features (CO053-104----), one of which was a pit dating to the Bronze Age, was located c. 120m to the S and another concentration of features (CO053-111----) were discovered at the S end of the excavation site. This fulacht fia, which had been truncated by machinery, was located to the S of a watercourse and was excavated in 2004/5 in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. It consisted of a mound (9m N-S; 8m E-W; D 0.3m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil beneath which was a rectangular timber-lined trough (2.22m x 1.36m; D 0.38m). Some of the timbers retrieved from the trough displayed evidence of burning. Three stake-holes were found in the base of the trough, 17 stake-holes and a possible post-hole were located at the E corner of the trough and a further four stake-holes were found at the N corner of the trough. The E portion of a possible pit was also found, 0.6m SW of the trough and a dried-up or back-filled watercourse was recorded to the N of the mound. This fulacht fia was radiocarbon-dated to the late Bronze Age (cal. BC 811-548 (UB-6778); cal. BC 789-419 (UB-6779). Excavations revealed a concentration of pits, post- and stake-holes at the S end of the site, to the W of a Bronze Age water collection feature (CO053-104----). Of these features, 33 stake-holes (av. diam. 0.1m; D 0.11) all had similar fills of charcoal-flecked silty clays, but formed no discernible structure. Eight pits, which were mainly subrectangular in shape (1.2m x 0.7; D 0.3m) with stony clay fills, were also recorded with a further two post-holes to the E. None of the features were linked stratigraphically to the adjacent Bronze Age water feature, and, while none of these features have been dated, their proximity to the Bronze Age feature is an indication that they may be of similar date (O'Connell 2006k, 46). Detached L-plan five-bay two-storey, built 1802, with staircase return to crook of L, three-bay two-storey lean-to extension to rear (south-west) elevation, and recent single-bay single-storey extension to south-east elevation of return. Hipped slate and artificial slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls. Square-headed openings with cut limestone sills and timber sliding sash windows, one-over-one pane to front (north-east) elevation, six-over-six pane to first floor of north-west elevation and nine-over-six pane to north-east window to ground floor of north-west elevation. Remaining window openings have replacement windows. Round-headed door opening with cobweb fanlight over recessed timber panelled door with limestone doorstep. House retains interior features including decorative plaster work. Single-storey outbuildings to rear with pitched corrugated-iron roofs, rubble stone walls and square-headed openings.
