Ministerial Consent was granted to Coillte 09/08/17 in order to fell trees within the vicinity of two National Monuments (NM580) (CO141-013001- and CO141-013002-) at Skeagh, Skibbereen, County Cork. The monitoring brief was extended to the extant ring-barrow (CO141-145----) located c. 44m to N and the cairn (CO141-144----) c. 22m to S due to their proximity and probable association as satellite monuments to the larger cairn (CO141-013002-; NM 580) A previously unrecorded barrow was noted c. 2m to SE of the large cairn (CO141-013002-), at the edge of the unplanted exclusion zone. It is an oval mound (dims. 4.8m N-S; 4.1m E-W) of earth and stone defined by a scarp (H 0.35m) all around. There is no extant trace of a fosse or a bank. Vegetation cover is limited as this monument was previously obscured by a fallen tree.
