In pasture, atop natural rise. Circular raised area (58.2m E-W; 56.6m N-S) enclosed by two earthen banks with deep intervening fosse SW->SE; scarp on line of inner bank to S. Inner bank (max. int. H 1.9m) highest on N side and decreasing in height around to the W and E. Fosse waterlogged to E. Outer bank (H 1.2m) lowest on E side where it varies between 0.4m and 1m in height. Breaks in inner bank to N and SE. Interior level; raised area inside SE bank; possible souterrain (9112) to N of centre. Shown on 1904 OS 6-inch map as hachured oval area (c. 50m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE) with smaller oval area (c. 25m NE-SW; c. 10m NW-SE) forming 'tail' at SW end. Area now heavily forested and no archaeological features noted. Probably same site as that described by Windele in 1843 (O'Mahony 1909,214): 'The hillock is about 30 or 40 feet high, of a long oval form,whether artifical or otherwise, we could not determine'. He also noted a flagstone at the summit which, according to local information, led 'to extensive crypts and passages beneath' (ibid.). In a mature coniferous forest, in an area of cutaway bog, on a hill to the N of Capeen. According to local information, the remains of possible relict field boundaries were uncovered 'three to four spades down' when turf was cut in this area in the past. The ground surface, which was disturbed during planting, is now obscured by a thick covering of forest debris, making it impossible to find traces of the possible field boundaries. In a small clearing in a coniferous forest, on a gentle N-facing slope. A circular area (13.5m E-W; 12m N-S) is defined by a low earth and stone bank (int. H 0.94m; ext. H 0.84m). The bank is covered with moss and heather and there are numerous gaps in it. The surface of the interior is uneven and also covered with moss and heather.
