In Rathcormack to E of Shanowen river. Indicated as long rectangular structure (long axis N-S) named flour mill on 1842 OS 6-inch map with mill race approaching mill from E, running through centre of mill structure. Mill is a rectangular, 4-storey, 6-bay structure, date plaque on E elevation 'Rathcormack Mills 1833'. According to local information, wheel-pit in centre of building covered over. Mill in use until 1960s, still inoccasional use. Low modern buildings surround mill. At S end is stone built addition indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map, 3-bay, 3-storey but similar in height to mill; now functions as dwelling house. Detached five-bay two-storey house, built c. 1840, with two-bay end elevations, east gable having canted bay to south end. Hipped artificial slate roof having oversailing eaves, moulded render eaves course, and rendered chimneystacks. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with limestone sills and one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Replacement casement windows to ground floor of west elevation. Flat-roofed portico to front supported by paired painted columns with limestone plinths, moulded capitals, entablature, moulded cornice, and pilasters to façade of house proper with render with moulded plinths and capitals pilasters. Round-headed door opening, approached by three cut limestone steps, with double-leaf timber panelled door, flanked by sidelights with decorative glazing to upper half, sidelights being flanked in turn flanked by Doric colonettes, and having cobweb fanlight over. Approached from south-east by curving avenue. Curved coursed rubble stone walls with render copings terminating in square-profile piers having cast-iron gates to entrance. Detached nine-bay three-storey former watermill, dated 1833. Southern three bays are later addition. Building part of larger structure that extended to west. Pitched reslated roof. Rubble limestone and sandstone walls, with roughly dressed quoins to older block and squarer blocks to later part. Roughly dressed voussoirs to camber-arched openings, now squared off and having replacement windows. Recent wide openings added to ground floor of east, roadside, elevation. Replacement doors to openings in west elevation. Tie bars between floors.
