On bog-covered SW-facing slope, below saddle of Esk and Barraboy Mountain. Small wedge-shaped chamber (L 1.5m; Wth 1.15m at W end. 0.7m at E) aligned NE-SW; sides each represented by single sidestone. Low thin slab inside base of S side may have been split from sidestone. Slab protruding from bog, resting on N sidestone, may be displaced roofstone. Slight traces of mound to N of chamber. Pre-bog walls and enclosure to SW tomb (Ó Nualláin 1989, 136) No remains of this wedge-tomb could be found during a subsequent visit 27 August 2007 The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. At the base of an E-facing cliff, in an area of rough rocky hill grazing, to the SW of the summit of Esk Mountain. An irregularly shaped opening (L 6m; Wth 4.6m; H 3.4m) on the face of the cliff leads into two smaller D-shaped adits (L c. 5m; Wth 2m; H 2m and L c. 5m; Wth 1.8m; H 1.2m, respectively) in which there are signs of fire-setting and copper staining. The adits, which are separated by a pillar of rock (Wth 0.6m), slope downwards and are partially filled with debris and water. On the rock-face to the N of the main opening, a roughly rectangular-shaped driving (Wth 4.1m; H 0.4-8m; D 2m) slopes upwards into the rock with further traces of fire-setting and copper staining. Large stones are scattered in front of the mine entrance, and the steep slope to the S of the entrance appears to contain mine debris. There is a hut site (CO090-012002-) c. 25m to the S. In rough rocky hill grazing, at the base of an E-facing cliff to the SW of the summit of Esk Mountain. The remains of a D-shaped hut site (2.6m E-W) defined by a curving stone wall (T 0.6m; H 0.4m) with a straight W side (L 3m) formed by the linear face of the cliff. The stone wall protrudes from the shallow bog. The interior is raised (H 0.3m) at the S and is cut (D 0.5m) into the upslope at N to create a level interior. In an area of rough hill grazing on bog, on a SW-facing slope. A roughly circular area (diam. 12m) defined by the remains of a stone wall was noted at this location in 1988 (SMR file). A possible hut site (CO090-013001-) was noted within the enclosure and field boundaries (CO090-014----) were noted extending from it. This entire area has been deep-ploughed in recent times and several stones are scattered on the disturbed uneven surface at the location. A possible hut site was recorded in this enclosure in 1988. This entire area has been deep-ploughed in recent times and there is now no visible surface trace of the possible hut site. A series of relict stone field boundaries adjoining an enclosure (CO090-013----) were noted in this area in October 1988. However the entire area has been deep-ploughed in more recent times and it would appear that the relict walls have been destroyed. The partially moss-covered remains of a circular cairn (diam. 4m; H 0.6m), consisting of a variety of stones, are defined by a kerb of contiguous slabs NE-S that protrude from shallow bog. On a hillside on a W-facing slope overlooking Tooreen valley. A circular area (diam. 11m) is defined by the remains of a stone wall (T 1.2m; H 0.5m) displaying traces of an inner and outer row of upright contiguous slabs, especially along the SE-S arc. The level interior is cut into the upsloping bank (D 0.5m) at E and is raised (H 1m) along the W arc, where it is revetted by horizontally laid stone facing.
