In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depictd as roughly circular area (diam c. 35m) on 1842, 1904 and 1938 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; bank survives as low rise enclosing circular area (diam. 35.3m). According to Hartnett (1939, 108), fort oval in plan and originally double-ramparted with outer rampart levelled except to E, where earth and stone bank ran outside fosse; entrance to NE. Outer bank described by Hartnett (ibid.) appears to befield boundary to E of enclosure which curves to respect site. Discovered during construction of access road; investigated by Rose Cleary (1986, 37), who recorded four earth-cut chambers; due to instability of structure only two were fully examined. Chamber 1: subrectangular (L 4.7m; Wth 1.8m; H 1.6m; long axis NW-SE); present entrance at SE end which is partly covered with soil; infilled construction shaft at NW end; earth-cut 'bench' along NW end (H 0.35m; L 1.3m); creepway to W (L 1.6m; Wth 0.3m; H 0.6m) to chamber 2. Chamber 2: subrectangular (L4m; Wth 1.8m; H 1.65m; long axis NNE-SSW); 'bench' at NE and SW ends similar to that in chamber 1; infilled construction shaft at NE end. Five-arch road bridge spanning Sullane River, built c.1830. Rubble stone walls having cut limestone stringcourse and cut limestone capping stones to parapet walls. Tooled limestone voussoirs to segmental-headed arches with prominent keystones. Carved limestone bowed cutwaters to up (north-west) and downstream (south-east) elevations. Weir to downstream elevation.
