In centre of graveyard (14623). Ivy-clad ruin of rectangular church (13.4m E-W; 8.5m N-S); only W gable stands to full height, otherwise walls greatly reduced in height. East wall (int. H 1.5m; ext. H 2m) has window embrasure, missing its light, set slightly off-centre; wall to N of window rebuilt. Short return of S wall at SE corner, terminating at what is probable splayed side of window; remainder of wall is reduced to low undulations. Short returns of N wall at E and W ends; remainder low (int. H c. 0.5m) with gap (Wth 5m) near W end. Cut-stone memorial to Ruddocks of Wallstown atop wall near E end; according to Windele (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 4, 308), erected 'within one or two years' of his visit in 1853. West gable survives to full height but featureless; top of gable may be rebuilt. Remains of parish church of Wallstown. Reported 'in ruins' in 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 403, 395). West wall (L c. 11.5m) stands to full height, topped by chimney; also standing is return of S wall (L 6.5m), with supporting buttress added at E end; garderobe tower projects from NW corner; farm buildings have been built against inside and outside of surviving walls. Blocked central window in W wall at 1st-floor level; part of hood moulding survives. Also at this level, remains of mural passage at N end of W wall, lit by two slit windows; contains garderobe. Blocked window at S end of W wall, at 2nd-floor level. Central fireplace, now blocked, in W wall at 3rd-floor level; traces of embrasure ingoings at each side of chimney-breast, probably windows. Part of wall-walk survives at W end of S wall, with projecting drip-stones; two gun loops in parapet walls. Tower at NW corner, of solid masonry to 1st-floor level though pierced by garderobe chute and outlet; vault over 1st floor now collapsed; tower does not survive above this level. Indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map as long rectangular structure parallel to road on its N side, named 'Church' on W side and 'School Ho.' on E side. Rectangular 5-bay nave (16m E-W; 5.1m N-S) with chancel (int.: 1.84m E-W; 3.26m N-S) at E end; both gable-ended and covered by single slate roof. Walls rendered over random-rubble. Chimney stack on W gable. Nave lit by rectangular sash windows 4 in N wall and 3 in S wall; bluntly-pointed door ope off centre in N elevation, with vertical half door. Bluntly pointed window in chancel. Divided internally by three crossing walls into four rooms: entrance hall (1.65m E-W) off centre to W; central room (5.5m E-W) to E of passage hall has fireplace in S wall and room lined with wooden panelling (H c. 2m) around walls; W room (3.45m E-W) end hall with fire place; narrow E room (2.85m E-W) including chancel. Built in 1841 by George John Gwynne who got grant to build school near Wallstown Rectory, which he was licensed to use for divine service until a parish church was erected (it never was) (Moroney 1995, 40). Pitched slate roof to main block with rendered gable-end chimneystacks having cast-iron rainwater goods, front elevation having square-profile downpipes having gargoyle hopper heads and gutters having lions' head masks. Painted smooth rendered walls. Square-headed window openings throughout having timber one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, having replacement uPVC windows to entrance projection and to rear elevation. Rendered label-moulding to first floor window of entrance projection. Square-headed entrance doorway with moulded render cornice supported on brackets, having timber panelled door with leaded glazing. U-plan farmyard to rear enclosed by three ranges of farm buildings, north range being two-storey and having pitching door with gablet reached by flight of steps to front elevation, other buildings being single-storey, with pitched and lean-to slate roofs and painted rubble stone walls. Ruined medieval tower house incorporated into north-east corner of yard. Cast-iron water pump in yard. Square-headed window openings with timber sliding sash windows, six-over-three pane having limestone sills to first floor and six-over-six pane windows to ground floor. Round-headed window opening to rear having stained-glass margined one-over-one pane timber sliding sash window. Segmental-headed entrance doorway with spoked fanlight and decorative frieze over timber panelled door with flanking timber Doric-style engaged columns having plinth blocks, approached by flagstone paving. Rubble limestone masonry boundary walls to site with segmental-headed archway having corrugated-iron double-leaf doors leading to rear courtyard having outbuilding with hipped slate roof and rendered walls.
