Internal diam. 9.5m. A small subcircular area enclosed by a grass-grown stone wall but truncated by a field fence along its W side. The wall survives to a height of .5m and a gap to the W is probably the entrance. It is situated on the NE slopes of Garvanagh Hill and surrounded by marshy rough pasture. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In pasture, on the level top of a limestone ridge, located 10m S of the N edge of the ridge where a steep slope drops into a flat-based valley of marshy ground. Subcircular area (int. diam. 10.4m N–S; 10.5m E–W) defined by a ruined stone bank/wall. The enclosure is located on a gently N-sloping terrace, and is built up higher on the N side to compensate for the slope and create a level interior. The enclosing wall on the N half consists of a broadly slumped scarp (Wth slope 1m; ext. H 0.7-0.8m) topped with a low stony bank (Wth 1m; int. H 0.1m), almost flush with interior ground level. On the S half, the enclosing stone bank is evident as a slight rise (Wth c. 1-2m) which has a clearly defined inner scarp (int. H 0.4m) but is almost flush with exterior ground level on its outer edge. There is a gap (Wth 1.4m) in the enclosing stone bank at E. At NW a subrectangular depression (2.5m E–W; 2-2.2m N–S; D 0.8m), with large stones exposed on its S side, cuts across the enclosing stone bank, and extends into the interior. This appears to be the result of relatively recent quarrying. A similar enclosure (DG017-025----) is located c. 165m to SW. In rough pasture, broken by seams of karst outcropping. Immediately to N, the ground shelves down into an E–W stream valley, overlooked on the N side by a high ridge. There are ruined vernacular farm buildings in the adjoining field to W. This enclosure is not indicated on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. It consists of a broadly oval area (c. 25m N-S; 21.5m E-W) defined by a low-profile bank (Wth 2-2.5m; H 0.3m). It is not clear whether the enclosing bank is earthen or has a stony core. It can be traced at WSW-NE as a very low, grass-covered rise. It is incorporated at NE-SE into a later field wall, now reduced to a jumble of stones. At SSE-SSW the outline of the enclosure is barely discernible, and here, along or just inside the original line of the enclosing bank, there is an area (c. 3.5-4m E-W) of disturbance where a seam of limestone bedrock has been quarried out. The interior of the enclosure is level and not noticeably raised above exterior ground level. Attached image: DG103-075----_01.JPG yellow arrows indicated curve of enclosing bank/wall at NW-E, viewed from E. In a pasture field, located adjacent to an E-W field wall bordering the N side of the field. Immediately to N of the field wall, the ground shelves down into an E-W stream valley. This feature is not shown on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. It consists of a circular area (diam. 6m) defined by a stone bank/wall (Wth 1m; H 0.3m). The stone bank is evident as a low, sod-covered rise, most clearly defined on the E half of the feature. No stones are visible but they can be felt beneath the sod cover. There is a gap (Wth 1.4m) in the enclosing bank at N, facing the natural slope which drops into the stream valley. The interior appears slightly sunken relative to exterior ground level. The remains of this feature are poorly preserved and its function is unclear. It may be a hut site but it is also possible that it is a relatively late feature, such as an animal pen, associated with a ruined vernacular farmstead located 40m to E. There is an enclosure (DG103-075----) located c. 80m to E. Attached images: DG103-076----_01.JPG viewed from SE DG103-076----_01.JPG viewed from W Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 21 May 2015 - DG104-013: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CDG104-013----. Located on a broad ridge top, in rough pasture broken by E–W seams of limestone outcropping. Immediately to S, the ground dips gently into a narrow, shallow E-W valley of wet ground. Oval enclosure (diam. c. 30.5m N–S; c. 26m E–W) defined by remnants of a stone bank /wall. The stone bank appears as a very low-profile, grass- and moss-covered rise (Wth 1.4-c. 2m; H 0.3-0.4m) from which occasional stones protrude. It is most clearly traced at N–NE and at SE-SW; elsewhere, it is barely discernible as a slight rise or cropmark of moss or low juniper scrub, and at SW-NW it is almost entirely levelled. The interior has a rough, hummock-covered suface, with seams of limestone breaking the surface in the S half. A shallow E–W central dip marks a tractor route through the interior, bracketted at E by a gap (Wth 4m), possibly an original entrance, in the enclosing wall, and at W by a levelled section of wall.
