A slab, upon which some loose stones have been heaped, covers St. Columbkille's well. It is about 20m from Columbkille's Lough in wet land. It is probably to be associated with a penitential station (DG025-028----) 40m to the S. Described by Ó Muirgheasa in 1936 as 'St. Colmcille's Well on the shore of Loch Colmcille at Kildarragh, half-way between Creeslough and Dunfanaghy. A few people still " walk " the turus on the 9th June, and the cairn of small stones on the hill above the well (Cnoc a' Chullin) testifies to the numbers who made the turus in ages past. No fish are found in this lake as Colmcille gave it a left-handed blessing because a fisherman there denied that he had any fish: the same story is told of Mulroy Bay' (Ó Muirgheasa 1936, 153). (Ó Muirgheasa No. 59). The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. There is no sign of the single-ringed enclosure shown on the 2nd and 3rd editions of the OS 6-inch maps. It was situated on the edge of a sheer cliff overlooking the NE. Good grazing is available locally but the topography would suggest a stone enclosure. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. Marked 'Cloghbane' on the OS 6-inch maps the site consists of five stones in a line. The central stone is the largest measuring 1.5m high × 1.25m wide × 0.65m thick; NNE-SSW. .75m to the N is a stone .6m high; .7m further N again is another, .4m high. .5m S of the standing stones is a stone, .25m × 0.25m in plan, its top flush with the present ground level; .65m further S again is another, almost buried, stone. Situated in bog land overlooked by higher ground to the S. The bog is growing up around the stones and may conceal others in the same line. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner. A price is the price recorded for a past sale, not a valuation.
