The tower house is situated amongst rich pastureland with views onto the Bray coastline and S to Sugarloaf Mountain. The Civil survey (1654-6) describes a 'thatched castle' at Ballyman, which was held since 1641 by Sir Edward Wingfield (Simington 1945, 279). Prior to 1641, the castle had been held by the Talbot family. The castle survived until c. 1835 when it was pulled down to supply materials for Ballyman House (D'Alton 1976, 459 2nd ed; Turner 1983, 87). The enclosure is formerly located on a S facing slope above the Bray river with extensive views of the coast of Bray and the Sugarloaf Mountain. An aerial photograph taken in 1970 (CUCAP, BDP 24) shows an L-shaped cropmark defined by two contiguous ditches aligned, roughly E-W. The present road forms the S boundary of the site. This is probably part of a much larger enclosure (ext. L 130m; Wth 0.85m). A field boundary on the S side of the road roughly corresponds to the W end of this enclosure. During road widening operations in 1979 two pit burials were truncated. They were located S of Carrickgollogan hill close to the County Wicklow border. Grave 1 was a burial contained in an inverted cordoned urn and contained the remains of a young adult. Grave 2 was a cordoned urn that contained the remains of two individuals, an adult and a juvenile. Cremated bone from the cordoned urn revealed a calibrated date of 1736-1531 BC at 95% probality. Bone from the undecorated urn had a calibrated date of 1684-1523 at 95% (Cahill, M. & Sikora, M. 2011, 161-167). The church is noted as being enclosed until the turn of the century when it was referred to as a cashel (Anon 1900, 187). Situated at the bottom of a valley on a S facing slope overlooking the N bank of the County Brook. Remains of a small rectangular building associated with an ecclesiastical enclosure (DU028-002001-). The E gable and portion of the S wall is still standing. The N wall survives to foundation level. Built of roughly coursed granite masonry. It has a round-headed E window under a segmental arch. There is a splayed ope at the W end of the S wall. The aumbry in the E gable has a graveslab as a lintel (see DU028-002006-).This is the church of Glen Munire, formerly an Early Christian foundation dedicated to St. Sillan and attached to Glendalough (O'Brien 1988, 520). The church in the early 14th century is listed among the possessions of the Knights Templars at their dissolution (O'Brien 1985, 20-21). It was enclosed until 1850. St. Kevin's Well lies on the S facing slope of a valley in the townland of Ballyman, parish of Oldconnaught. The well, or spring, rises at the foot of a bank on the N side of the County Brook which divides Dublin from Co. Wicklow. Medieval church ruins (DU028-002002-) lies 60m to the E. Holy well described in 1900 as follows; 'Near the church is a well, called after St. Kevin, and surrounded by trees on which, until lately, the rags hung by pilgrims to its healing waters were to be seen' (Anon. 1900, 187). Holy well was still venerated in the 1950's (Ó Danachair 1958, 84). The 1837 Ordnance Survey Letters recorded the site as a blessed well (Herity 2001, 33).
