This enigmatic structure is located within an area enclosed by a hedge on top of Druid Hill. In the E side of the enclosure are three irregular granite boulders that form a façade behind which is a larger boulder containing a setting of stones that form a seat. Tara Hill, Killiney Martello Tower and Battery No. 7 (Kerrigan 1995, 170). According to Kerrigan (1995, 168) construction of the Dublin area Martello Towers and their batteries commenced in 1804 under the supervision of Colonel Benjamin Fisher of the Royal Engineers and by December 1805 all towers were armed and complete. Kerrigan (ibid., 170) recorded that; ‘The towers and batteries south of Dublin are numbered from 1 to 16, but there were only fourteen towers, as at two locations there were batteries only, while several of the towers were close to adjacent batteries’. Located east of Killiney Hill Road (R119) and is located in an urbanised area of housing. This site dates to post 1700. Tower No. 7 described by Kerrigan (1995, 173) as; 'just under a quarter of a mile inland are tower and battery no. 7, some 250 feet above sea level. Here the tower and battery survive, the three gun battery (of 24-pounders) linked to the tower on the south-east side. Built against the tower and at the rear of the battery is a single-storey structure, covered until recently by a lean-to slate roof. There was access from this building to the first-floor level of the tower by means of a vertical recess within the wall thickness of the tower'. Killiney (Ceall Inghean Léinín/church of the seven daughters of Léinín) monastery was founded in the 6th-century by its patron saint Aighleann and her seven sisters, the daughters of Léinín, who were Machain, Luidhean, Druighean, Luiceall, Rímhtheach, and Brighid. Ó Riain (2011, 57-8) recorded that 'Aighleann reputedly gave birth to three sons of Eacha of Ceinéal Laoghaire (now approximately the Meath baronies of Navan), namely Fiontan of Slanore, Colum (Colmán) of Myshall, and Lughaidh of Teernacreeve. Her feastday and that of her sisters fell on the 6th of March, under the collective name Ingehana Léinín. Her brother Colmán, son of Léinín was patron of the church and diocese of Cloyne (CO088-019006-), Co. Cork and of Kilmaclenine church (CO024-052005-). Her sister Brighid, was patron of Teampall Brighde (CO017-101004-) in Buttevant, Co. Cork and Britway (CO045-08802-), Co. Cork. This well preserved building comprises a church of nave and chancel type with a N aisle added in the late medieval period. The church is dedicated to the daughters of the 6th-century Saint Lein. The walls survive to full height and are built of coursed granite blocks with dressed granite quoins. Entered through a W doorway in the nave which is flat-headed with a Latin cross inscribed on the soffit of the lintel. The interior of nave (int. dims L 6.17m, Wth 3.92m) is lit by a single mullioned window in the S wall and an ope at the W end of the N wall. According to Wakeman (1892, 102) the cemetery was originally enclosed by an earthen rath, which was replaced by the present stone boundary wall. Loughlinstown Martello Tower and Battery No. 6 (Kerrigan 1995, 174). According to Kerrigan (1995, 168) construction of the Dublin area Martello Towers and their batteries commenced in 1804 under the supervision of Colonel Benjamin Fisher of the Royal Engineers and by December 1805 all towers were armed and complete. Kerrigan (ibid., 174) recorded that; ‘The towers and batteries south of Dublin are numbered from 1 to 16, but there were only fourteen towers, as at two locations there were batteries only, while several of the towers were close to adjacent batteries’. The Martello tower [aka Enoch Tower] dates to post-1700 AD and it is located in a coastal location, close to a beach. The property is called Granagh. The tower is built of granite with a doorway in the W and a marked string course. It is accessible from beach and it has a two storey addition with a turret. There is another Martello tower in view to the NE on Dalkey Island.
