The medieval parish church of Old Connaught stands in a burial ground outside the village of Old Connaught. It survives to full height with E gable and single bellcote over W gable. It is built of random granite and sandstone masonry with dressed granite quoins (int. dims. L 10.2m, Wth 5.8m). The entrance is located at the W end of S wall. D'Alton (1976, 457) writing in 1838 describes a round-arched opening in this wall. There is no internal division between nave and chancel. The interior is lit by a lancet window in the E gable with dressed granite quoins and a single slit ope in the W wall. There are square-headed opes in the N and S side walls. The S wall contains granite faced niches at either end of the wall. There are 19th-20th century memorials within the graveyard (Anon 1900, 187; Ball 1902, 120: Turner 1983, 47). This burial was located on gently undulating ground which rises to a low ridge at the site. It comprises a slightly raised area, covered in trees. During quarrying in the area in the nineteenth century several skeletons and finds of bronze fibulae were uncovered here (Wakeman 1894). In 1989 archaeological excavations were carried out at the site prior to the construction of the Shankill/Bray By-Pass. The only feature uncovered was a ditch containing a piece of iron and a fragment of clay pipe which is likely to be post medieval in date (https://www.excavations.ie/report/1989/Dublin/0000861/).
