Situated on on the S slopes of Piperstown Hill. A cairn known as Site K. ‘Site K: Before excavation this site appeared as an irregular, low cairn of stones, measuring about 3.50 – 4.0 m. in diameter and about 50 cm. in maximum height.’ Excavations in 1962 revealed that the cairn was demarcated by six orthostats set at intervals around its perimeter. These varied from 0.43m to 0.58m in height and five of the six were inclined outwards, apparently pushed out by the weight of the cairn. Centrally set within the cairn was a circular, flat-bottomed pit which, though disturbed, contained a layer of charcoal and created bone at the bottom. Lying on the northern edge of the bone deposit was a small flake of whitish-grey flint' (Rynne and Ó hEailidhe 1965, 66-9, 77). The northern portion is, at present, not visible and it may have been removed or, perhaps, was never constructed. It is crescentic in shape, about 4-75 m. by 3-50 m. in maximum E-W and N-S measurements respectively, and is about 20 cm. in maximum height. Situated on the S slope of Piperstown Hill it was discovered after a forest fire. A cairn known as Site G. ‘Site G: Little more than a roughly circular concentration of stones. It averages about 3m. in diameter and is about 25 cm in maximum height. At its centre is a hollow about 80 cm. in diameter, which suggests that this cairn has been disturbed. No evidence of a kerb. Situated on the S slopes of Piperstown Hill. A cairn known as Site H. ‘ Site H: This cairn of stones is the largest and most impressive monument on the hillside. It is irregular in plan, averaging about 7 m. in diameter, and is about 60 cm. in maximum height. In the southern half there are five large, widely spaced, vertically set kerbstones; two somewhat sirnilar stones are visible in the northern portion of the cairn and it is possible that they may also be kerbstones but as this is very doubtful they have not been plotted on the plan. There has been some recent disturbance of the cairn just south of its centre.’ This was considered by Rynne and Ó hÉailidhe (1965, 79) to be a possible burial cairn. Situated on the S slopes of Piperstown Hill. A habitation site known as Site L. Excavated in 1962 it was found to comprise an irregular stony area with a central hearth defined by thin slabs on the north-eastern and south-eastern sides: the slabs along the other two sides had been removed by ‘treasure-hunting’ activities at the site during the previous year. The only finds from the excavation were twenty-three flints, all artificially struck but only four of which were artefacts, including a concave scraper. (Rynne and Ó hEailidhe 1965, 69-71). Situated on the S slopes of Piperstown Hill. A habitation site known as Site M. Excavated in 1962 it was found to consist of an irregular single-course ring of small and large rounded stones which delimited an area more sub-rectangular than oval, and which measured c. 5.5m north – south by 4m east – west, with an entrance at the south. A hearth was revealed slightly north of centre of the enclosure (0.95m by 0.65m) with each side formed of a single slab. Immediately east of the hearth was a circular pit (Pit 1; 1.4m diam.; 0.40m deep) which had been filled with large stones and contained a quantity of worked flint flakes and artifacts. To the south of this pit was a second one (Pit 2; 1.50m by 1.10m and 0.30m deep) located just inside the entrance feature. This also was filled with large stones and several struck flints and a few artifacts were recovered from it. The area around the entrance produced large quantities of flints, mostly waste flakes.
