This site was excavated as part of topsoil-stripping associated with the East-West interconnector project (HVC E-WIP) (Licence no. 10E0154). The kiln (3.2m long) was aligned SW-NE and was irregular in plan. Two pits were lined by a linear trench, the basal fill of the SW comprised a 50mm deep layer of charred wood/charcoal (Byrne 2010). Compiled by: Christine Baker Date of upload: 5 February 2015 - DU008-108001: Burial, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CDU008-108001-. This site was identified as part of test excavation associated with the East–West Interconnector Project (HVC E-WIP) (Licence no. 11E0235). Located N of Rogerstown estuary the burials extend for 15m E-W x 20m N-S within the construction corridor and extend beyond towards the estuary. A N-S alignment was determined in two cases. A number of burials were in stone-lined graves. A radiocarbon determination for one of the burials returned a date of 618-675 AD (Mullins 2011). Compiled by: Christine Baker Date of upload: 5 February 2015 - DU008-108002: Enclosure, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CDU008-108002-. This site was identified as part of test excavation associated with the East–West Interconnector Project (HVC E-WIP) (Licence no. 11E0235). Located N of Rogerstown estuary, a number of ditches were also identified to the E and W of burials (DU008-108001-) and it is possible that these served to demarcate the burial area. The ditch on the W appeared to be of sizeable proportions and produced charred grain from its fill. Across the width of the construction corridor the burials and associated ditches were sealed by a depth of approximately 0.3m of soil. This soil was similar to topsoil and contained frequent inclusions of medieval potsherds and animal bone. (Mullins 2011). Compiled by: Christine Baker Date of upload: 5 February 2015 - DU008-108003: Road - road/trackway, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CDU008-108003-. This site was identified as part of test excavation associated with the East–West Interconnector Project (HVC E-WIP) (Licence no. 11E0235). Located N of Rogerstown estuary, a metalled surface (2.6m min. width) that appeared to represent a roadway was identified to the E of the burials (DU008-108001-). Aligned E to W, a length of at least 60m of this road was preserved within the testing area. The association of late medieval potsherds with the fabric of this road provides a clue to the date of its construction (Mullins 2011). This site was excavated as part of monitoring associated with the Rush and Lusk Waste Water Treatment Scheme (Licence no. 10E0121). Located on a gradual south-facing slope over Rogerstown estuary, the monument was characterised by two slot trenches that formed the E end of the structure. Sherds of Neolithic carinated bowl pottery were recovered from the fill. A small hazel charcoal from this deposit returned a date of 3640-3520 cal. BC. A small hearth (0.6m diam.) was located c. 37m to the W of the structure and a pit and postholes to the SW (McQuade 2011, 28).
