St. Senan's Well in the parish of Saggart, is a natural spring well on W side of Slade river valley. Annotated 'Well' on the 1863 ed. OSi 25-inch map. Dedicated to St. Senan (Ó Danachair 1958, 83). Folklore collected from Saggart School recorded the following details about this well; 'There are two holy wells in our parish. St. Patrick's well and Tobar Senan. There is a well about a mile from Saggart. It is in the Slade. It is called Tobar Senan. People use the water of this well for churning. It is said that it is lucky water for making butter' (The Schools’ Collection, Volume 0793, Pages 5-6; https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4428211/4386326/4450322). Another story collected from Saggart School about this well recorded that; 'There are three holy wells near the village of Saggart. These are called St. Patrick's Well [DU021-045----], Tobar Seanáin and Tobar Moling [DU021-051----]. Tobar Seanáin is situated in the townland of Saggart. It is out in a field. Toothache is said the be cured in it. The water is still used for household use. Farmers use it for the making of butter. They say that the butter tastes much nicer when made from this water' (The Schools’ Collection, Volume 0793, Pages 3-4; https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4428211/4386304). Folklore collected from Saggart School recorded that; 'Tobar Seanán is situated about a mile from the village of Saggart. It is in a field (Byrne's field) with a stone covering it' (The Schools’ Collection, Volume 0793, Page 33; https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4428211/4386297/4450347). This is a four-arched bridge which crosses a stream that becomes the Camac river outside Clondalkin. It has been disused since 1820 (Healy 1974, 25) and was on the line of the old coach road, which ran from Saggart to Brittas. It is built of undressed mortared stone with roughly trimmed keystones. There are triangular cutwaters on the upstream end of the piers. The parapets are missing. The stream runs through the W arch. It has been dated to the 17th century (O'Keefe & Simington 1991, 226-228). Compiled by Geraldine Stout - DU021-050: Linear earthwork, https://heritagedata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0c9eb9575b544081b0d296436d8f60f8&query=18a4b61b268-layer-9%2CSMRS%2CDU021-050----. Survives as a section of townland boundary between Slade and Crooksling. It runs along the crest of land that falls away to the NW, overlooking Saggart Village. Comprises a bank with contiguous internal and external fosse. The bank is flat-topped (H 1m-1.10m, Wth 5m). The internal fosse is largely silted up (Wth 1.50m, D 0.30m-0.40m) whereas the external fosse is overgrown (Wth 3m, D 0.50m). This feature has been interpreted as a medieval boundary to Saggart Commons (Ua Broin 1957, 39-41). Compiled by Geraldine Stout Works at or in relation to a recorded monument need two months' written notice to the National Monuments Service (National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994, section 12). ## Architectural heritage (National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) No building of the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage stands in the townland of Slade. ## Ground and risks (Radon Risk Map of Ireland, EPA; Landslide Susceptibility Classification and LiDAR, Geological Survey Ireland) - Radon: at the centre of the townland of Slade, about 1 in 20 homes in this area is likely to have high radon levels. A parcel is the land of a title, not an address. The owner's name is in the Land Registry of Tailte Éireann: a copy of the folio can be ordered on landdirect.ie, for a fee; this site names no owner.
